Freeport Bahamas, general advice ?

Usually travel to our timeshare (Royal Sands, Cancun)
This - 2016 - being a "zero week" year, we traded for 3/12 - 3-19 at Island Seas Resort, Freeport, Bahamas.
Sorry for long post, but been all over the Carribean but NEVER to Bahamas.
We're a mixed group - one elder, 2 adults, 3 picky teens.

How safe is drinking water?
Easy beach access?
Best places to shop? / eat with our mixed group?

Thanks for any recommendations/general advice.!

I was there back in 2011. I don't remember there being any issue with the drinking water. I could walk to both Port Lucaya Marketplace from the B&B where I stayed (you're the other side of Port Lucaya Marketplace from my B&B it seems). There's a lot of beach; away from the resorts, sometimes you'll feel like you have your very own stretch of beach, so tranquil are some of the beaches! I enjoyed the cycling as well on the island on Midshipman Road (not far from you hotel); there was a path that allowed you to get most of the way from Port Lucaya Marketplace to the verdant and charmingly-maintained Garden of the Groves, with some handsome beaches to boot along the way! I ate at Port Lucaya Marketplace (close shopping option too), which had a number of decent options, although it's been 5 years now, so my advice at best would not be current in this regard. UNEXSO was fantastic with training if any of the bunch wants to try scuba diving.

I have fond memories of my trip there. I hope you'll enjoy too!

Grand Bahama has the most fresh water available on most islands ,but why ruin a trip if your tummy is not used to it, buy bottle water freeze some and use it in cooler and others for drinking,Port Lucaya not far from resort you will find subway , shops and stores, we do the grocery store Solomans not too far from you a cab ride to stock up on basics, like water and eggs we microwave scramble, doughnuts & coffee, PBJ for lunches and easy mac for kids saves $$$$$, FOOD eating out is expensive on island and adds up, we buy rum and enjoy Sands or Kalik island beers similar to USA Miller. Your resort is on nice beach area, but do get east to see Lucayan caves and park Great Beach across the street! Included in entrance fee a great way to spend the day, may be grab lunch in Mather Town at one of the 3 beach bar / restaurants our favorite is Sand Bar/Margaritavilla!Have fun trip,
