Frangipani?

We are considering Anguilla next April for our trip and starting to research hotels. We had considered this location several years ago and had decided on Frangipani. I know it has since been sold and condo's built next door? I notice not much is mentioned on this little place anymore- anyone been there lately? Thank you! Susan

I would stay away. The Frangipani is a property that has had problems for a long time. Take a look at reviews on trip advisor. We stayed there our first trip to axa 10 years ago. It was a beautiful property. It suffers form chronic turnover in management and staff. I would not risk my vacation plans on this place.

Susan:

How timely is your question! We just returned from 8 magnificent days at Frangipani and were going to post our trip report!

We have been going to Anguilla for over 19 years and have stayed everywhere on the island ( Mali, Capj, Rendevous Bay etc)and Frangipani years ago. We heard they were under new management and WOW this new management- particularly Ed Marinucci the new General Manager- is first class all the way and the other major hotels in Anguilla could learn a great deal from Ed and his staff as to how to treat and appreciate guests. First, Ed was constantly on the scene and never forgot your name. He and his staff were proactive in ensuring you were completely satisfied and had a sense of urgency in everything they did.We love the laid back scene in the Caribbean but not when it comes to service. We met many guests who reported walking out of restaurants after waiting over an hour to get served- and with few people in the restaurant.
We also liked the fact that everyone was flexible in their service approach- no rigidity here. Need a different chair? want to sit over here? different meal? different drink? served at this hour or that? you got it!
The rooms: Have all been completely renovated. They are spacious, well air conditioned, plasma TV's, beautiful amenities ie velvet like towels.

The Beach is 5 steps away, well groomed every day, with comfortable lounge chairs, same velvety towels, and beach staff to handle your every wish. The pool- another 5 steps away- was immaculately clean and refreshing.

One of the greatest things we liked about Frangipani was the restaurant- Meads Bay Grill. It is right on the beach. I mean RIGHT on the beach. Lots of restaurants on Anguilla are close to the beach - but not like this. Every morning you had a choice of breakfast buffet or al la carte which we preferred to most other hotels which make you wait to order breakfast. We helped ourselves to coffee and croissants which we could bring back to our room terrace or sit on the Meads Bay grill deck. Lunch was delicious and a few steps away from our beach chairs.

For dinner, we visited a few friends we had made over the years at other establishments and when we finally tried Meads Bay Grill for dinner we were sorry we did not go there first. Marlon the chef, not only served a great menu but made us whatever we wanted. For example we asked him one evening for a particular fresh fish made a special way and he went to the fish market the next day and we had it the following evening. Perfect! While Anguilla has several fine restaurants with this perfect location why drive place to place when you can view an incredible sunset at the bar, and walk two steps to have whatever you desire. Not that visiting different places is a bad thing- just want to spend more time enjoying and less time traveling- particularly now with the tremendous construction on Anguilla the traffic- yes traffic- is like you have never seen before with cement trucks and bull dozers all over the road not to mention the influx of workers.

We are planning to return with our two children at the end of July and Marlon is going to make us Barbeque ribs. Not on the menu- at the moment- but no problem.

I wanted to follow up on my post on the Frangipani. It is under new ownership and just like the previous post to your message here, is getting great reviews!! It has been all done over and is running like a top under new ownership. Everyone we met that was staying there was so pleased with everything! I am so glad. It is a great property and the very first place we stayed the first time we went to Anguilla 12 years ago.
