Four Seasons Nevis and RoamsAround thanks

Our family of 5 stayed at Four Seasons Nevis in November. We rented a car for a few days this trip, which I highly recommend. Many of the great experiences we had came about because of the knowledge and prolific posting of RoamsAround. After reviewing extensive posts about Nevis, and a few inquiries to the concierge at FS, it is clear that not only does RA know far more than the concierge at FS, but he is nearly encyclopedic about Nevis. I, as I'm sure are many others on the Fodor's forums, am very grateful for his exhaustive generosity and willingness to share his extensive knowledge about not only Nevis, but much of the Caribbean. Most of the following points of interest were from info provided by RA.

I took my wife, as well as 2 and 8 year old daughters, up to Saddle Hill to see the grave of Philppa Prentiss and the remains of Lord Nelson's lookout. You can find good info by searching for 'hikingnevis' and Saddle Hill.

We had lunch at Mt Nevis Hotel. An absolutely amazing view out towards the channel and St. Kitts, reasonable food. I will try to attach a photo to this trip report. Met Stella and Bill, a very engaging couple who are part-year residents from Canada, but otherwise we had the place to ourselves.

Found Chrishi Beach Club, about 5 min down the road, on Cades Bay. Beautifully simple, free beach chairs, wonderful burger. This place is an undiscovered gem. I wish we had spent more time there.

Made the requisite pilgrimage to Sunshine's. Fantastic ribs, friendly staff. I imagine you can get a lot of things at Sunshine's...

Drove to dinner at Bananas, up in the hills above Charlestown (very good signage if you are driving on your own; just remember to look over to the streetcorner post and look for the handwritten sign). Go. Go just before sunset, and enjoy the view from the 3rd floor terrace. Really good food, nice artwork throughout, and attentive but not intrusive service.

As we were driving through the Gingerland area, just east of Charlestown, we stopped at a small 'ice cream' store along the road. Can't remember the name, but the proprietess informed us that in fact, they had NO ice cream that day. Reminded me of the Monty Python Cheese Shop skit. Too funny.

FS Nevis was great. It was as relaxing as a vacation could be while taking care of 3 young children. The 2 older children loved the Kids Club. The staff seem genuinely friendly. The room was large enough to fit all of us comfortably. Quite a bit larger than the room we squeezed into at Little Dix Bay years ago (but the beach there is fantastic). Beach still loses in comparison to BVI, Bahamas, Anguilla, etc. Ah well, no place is perfect !
