Four Seasons in the Exumas announced today it will close May 26

Fyi Exumas travelers!

I'm in the Exumas and was supposed to visit the property Friday, and they just announced they are closing May 26. Doesn't seem to surprise many of the locals here, but it seems like such a quick closing!

You should have had me go for you! ;-)
Do not miss: pig roast at Chat N Chill on Sunday,
Tropic of Cancer Beach (take food, there's nowhere to eat)
Moriah Cay (requires boat)
I'm sure you've gone to Stocking Island!

I suppose they never really solved their food problem. It was pervasive. In this economy you have to be going 11- MPH on all cylinders just tp hold on until better days return. I am surprised FS couldn't pull it off.

I guess it isn't a surprise after reading so many poor reviews. That is unfortunate as I think of the locals employed by Four Seasons.

Molly, I'm looking forward to your report. I leave in 24 days!!

I just got a call today from AMEX Platinum Travel letting me know they closed and gave me a number to call. Four Seasons is protecting their guests by making reservations at other resorts for those that had reservations after their closing date.

Here is the 800 # to call if you had reservations at Four Seasons:

866 554 4712

This is a very sad sign...first Nevis and now Exuma. What will the many local employees do now?

Nevis is not shutting down for good; they are making repairs/upgrades following Hurricane Omar. Last I checked, they were set to reopen later this year.

The Four Seasons Nevis is in foreclosure. It was not owned directly by Four Seasons. There are hopes that it will be bought and that rebuilding will begin soon. Given island time and the financial uncertainties, I would be surprised if it could open this year. It's very sad for the local employees.

Glad we decided not to go to Nevis this coming winter. We were told the FS would open for sure in November.

Just got back from the Exumas last night. After talking with many locals, it seems most people think Emerald Bay just wanted to get the Four Seasons out. Many locals think the resort will be back open by the end of the year with a new management company. But this is all just "sip sip" (Bahamian for gossip). I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. It really is a beautiful property.

I checked out the Grand Isle complex next door and was impressed. Many of the guests there said they've stayed at both the Four Seasons and Grand Isle, and prefer Grand Isle for it's friendly service.

"Glad we decided not to go to Nevis this coming winter."

Why? There are other wonderful places to stay on Nevis. They need your tourist dollars more than ever. A sad decision, I'd say.

Good point Joan. Nevis is well worth visiting without the Four Seasons being open. Lots of great places to stay in different budgets, with many good restaurants.
