Has anyone stayed at the Four Seasons in Nevis with a toddler? Our daughter will be 18 months old when we are thinking about going. I understand that it is "family friendly", but that doesn't always mean "toddler friendly." Thanks.

I'd say FS Nevis would be a good choice for you.

A lot of people who are interested in staying at a more adult-oriented top resort have decided not to stay there because of reports of lots of children there.

The last time we stayed at FS Nevis was off-season in September, and we did not see a lot of kids, but I do believe the resort is extremely family-friendly.

Again, I think it is a good choice for families with small children and that you would be welcomed.

bgans - as Diana mentioned it would be a good choice for you. We spent a lot of time there in May (we stayed in a villa, but spent a lot of time at the resort) My daughter was about 7 months at the time. There were lots of little ones there. It is a very kid friendly place. It has a kids pool / playground and outdoor dining by the pool / beach. It is a very laid back place.
I think you would have a wonderful time.

Went to FS Nevis last year with our two boys, 1 and 2 years old at the time. I would highly recommend it. My wife and I loved it and so did the kids. We got a babysitter every day and she was cheaper than our babysitter at home. They have a nice playground and a kid center. You would have to accompany your child, as they have to be a little older to leave them there.

GO! You'll love it.

Its probably really good for a toddler. They have a private side and a family side. The food is very expensive though. Entrees range from $40-$60 for dinner.

One other thing to note is how you get to Nevis. I found the boat from St. Kitts to Nevis to be a little rough. I am also a seasoned boater....my family has had a yacht since I was little.

As with any crossing between islands in the Caribbean where the channel opens out toward the Atlantic the passage between Nevis and St. Kitts can be smooth as glass or bumpy. It all depends the direction of the winds, the current, time of day and the time of year. I have a home on Nevis and can tell you that more often than not the passage between NEV/SKB is relatively calm and uneventful. That said, there are a few times when the seas are "up" - when that happens the ferries usually stay close to shore for as long as possible and cross at the narrowest part of the channel rather than take the quicker "diagonal" crossing in order to minimize the bumps. Unfortunately there's no way to predict if the "lumps" (while rare) will decide to show up the specific day you might be travelling. If it helps, the entire trip is only about 40 minutes and the bumpy part, when it does occur, lasts only about 15 minutes.

Why would someone need to take the ferry to Nevis anyway (per the discussion above)? American Eagle flys directly into Nevis twice daily from San Juan, which is easily reached from most large US airports. I guess if someone got a direct flight to St Kitts from their hometown, it might make some sense. No need to catch and pay for the ferry and spend the time. Doesn't the FS pick its guests up at the airport?

Just to clarify, I wasn't talking about a ferry. The Four Seasons has its own boat that transports you.

Thanks for the replies. I asked because a friend went there for her honeymoon (and raved about it) and I don't recall her saying anything about seeing kids there.

As for the boat ride part, I will look into flights from PR to Nevis, but I would be more worried about my husband (who is prone to seasickness) than I would be about my daughter who will think that waves are the most fun she has ever had.

To Dave - Yes, the Four Seasons will meet their guests in St. Kitts and transport them to the hotel by their own ferry but it is not free. They charge about $80 PP for this service.

You are, however, correct in saying that American Eagle has daily flights to/from SJU but for about 3 or 4 months during the year there is only one daily flight and the schedule doesn't always allow for a good in-bound connection from the US so visitors to NEV either have to overnight in SJU or take a flight to SKB then catch either the 4S's ferry or the regular ferry to NEV. Also, as you surmised, many visitors can get a flight directly from their gateway city to SKB while still other Nevis bound passengers arrive in SKB from other islands thus requiring boat passage to NEV.

There are many reasons why a person would be taking the ferry between SKB and NEV and for the most part the boat trip between islands is relatively smooth and uneventful. But like all things dealing with Mother Nature there are no guarantees.

I would definitely look into flights into Nevis if your husband gets seasick. There is no worse feeling in the world! It is an easy flight direct from San Juan. GL
