foreign trans. fees in P.Rico?

I searched and couldn't find a thread that mentioned this specifically for Puerto Rico and need to know which cc to use while there. Thanks!

No foreign transaction fees (so long as you are using an card from a U.S. bank). Puerto Rico is part of the U.S.

Thanks, that's what I thought but wanted to double check.

You may want to check with your credit card company as it seems inconsistent. This woman was indeed charged foreign transaction fees and Visa only refunded her $16.00 after a consumer blog intervened on her behalf. The article below includes this Visa's card language on the policy -- they refunded her fees as a courtesy but warned future PR purchases would still be charged. Crazy, isn't it?

Well, there you go. You need to ask your credit card company whether or not they charge the FTF in Puerto Rico. I see that Citibank recently sold its businesses there, so I'm guessing Citi probably now has the FTF in Puerto Rico even if it didn't before. I guess there's just no easy answer.

My bf's Visa didn't charge the FTF when we were in Bonaire (now using USD as official currency ) so it just seems that everyone needs to know their specific card's policy and call. Yet another phone call to make before we leave for our trips.... : )

Get a Captial One Visa or Master Card. THere are no foreign transaction fees for purchases no matter where you go.
