My wife and I will be on the island one week. We will obviously spend time on the beach, but, is there a good public transportation system from the Marriott or is a rental car or cab required for the major activities? What are the approximate cab hire rates on Aruba?

Hi Capri,

just replied to your currency question.

The public transport is Aruba is AMAZING! It's clean, inexpensive, regular and used by tourists and locals.

Please try it, we met so many nice people (mainly from the USA), even late at night.

Any more questions? Ask away!

I agree with alya, Aruba's public transportation buses are wonderful. I believe a roundtrip to downtown is still $2.00 if you purchase your rountrip tick when you first get on the bus.

Alya, you must have had a wonderful trip. I used your info as a basis to find the bus schedule for ARUBUS. They operate 22.5 hours of each day, and so they get to/from the hotels frequently. Short of taking a self-guided tour around the island, it doesn't seem like a car is really required, if the bus service is that good. That said, I don't think we'll rent a car unless there is one specific day we want to go somewhere, such as the Flying Fish, for a dinner, that is not reachable by public transportation.

Capri,

We did have a wonderful trip and I'm sure you will too.

All the tours/activities we did collected us from the hotel and since the bus stop was a quick walk away from the Bucuti Beach it really didn't make any sense to hire a car.

You can always decide to hire a car once you get there and get a feel for the island.
