Florida beaches like Grand Cayman?
I periodically see posts that state Grand Cayman reminds people of the beaches in Florida. We have been to Florida many times, but have never founds anything that compares at all to the beaches in Grand Cayman in terms of water quality, snorkeling and sheer beauty of the beaches. Where would one go to find something similar to Grand Cayman in Florida? I'm confused.

emerald coast, which is the panhandle of florida. think seaside, destin, grayton beach.

I'm thinking that people compare Cayman to Florida because it is so very built up and Americanized. The beaches are not like Florida - at least not any part of Florida (east or west coast)where I have ever been.

The beaches in Destin do look like Grand Cayman. I thought it couldn't be true until I was actually there. Fort Walton beach where we flew into was really murky - but once we crossed over the bridge into Destin - it was beautiful. White sand, turquoise water, and you can see your feet!

Snorkeling off Florida beaches is virtually non-existent. There are a few places-- but nothing even remotely resembling Cayman. I agree that the nicest sand is around Destin, Perdido Key, etc.

Is there snorkeling in or around Destin? Or do you find the nice beach/water there, but no snorkeling?
|
no snorkeling

People do snorkel right from the beach in Destin.
