Flights
My husband and I are planning a trip to Barbados (first time), the second week of June. We are finding flights for around $650 (from NYC), but I'm wondering if this is a lot for an off-season flight. Has anyone traveled to Barbados in the summer, and what kind of fares should we be looking out for? Should we be holding out for fares to come down?

Hi there,
We're heading to Barbados in May. We purchased our airfare through Orbitz. Boston to Barbados on United $920 for both of us. Flight was $910 plus $10 for tax. We originally priced the airfare w/ American and it was double.

Flights in general are much more costly due to higher fuel costs, special charges for extra searches due to terrorism, etc. The days of $460 flights from NYC are gone for the most part (unless someone runs a special).

I am a travel agent and I'm also from the islands. $650.00 is about the going price, the fares are a little less in late March or early april. You may want to try BWIA Airways, they go nonstop from NYC to BGI and are competitive. I would wait a little. but not too long as June is a busy time in the islands and the availability of seats not price is the deciding factor.

Thanks everyone. Glad I held out - found $450 flights on BWIA!

Has anyone flown BWIA recently? Wondering if anyone has thoughts on how dependable it is.

We flew that last year (Oct/Nov) from DC to Barbados. Exactly on time going. Coming back a 2 hr. delay in leaving Barbados.

We're heading to Barbados from Salt Lake City, UT. The cheapest we could get was $886.40 PP. Anything cheaper out there?

My wife and I are travelling from London and flights and hotel can be had as cheap as £299 a person inc transfers and self catering accomodation (2 star+) at the moment.

So that's $900 US all in for 2 people!! Maybe you should consider picking up a cheap return flight to London and doing a couple of days here?

We've opted for a 10 day AI in June, which although likely to be slightly less sunny comes in at $2250 all in.

Not a problem because I get 8 weeks vacation a year and the wife gets 5 (one of the benefits of living/working in England :O)

Take care.
