Fine Dining Barbados

I am surprising my husband with a romantic trip to Barbados over memorial day. We are staying for 4 nights at the Sandy Lane. Where should we eat for the 4 nights? I want the best food and atmosphere and wine lists. Also, what do you think of L'Acalou, The Cliff and Carambola?

Thanks!

People rave about Carambola but I was disappointed. For example, my banana daiquiri was made with an unripe banana (yuck) - the waiter acknowledged this but neither replaced the drink nor adjusted the bill. Not what I expected at an upscale location.

I'd go for the Cliff.

Can't comment on L'Acalou.

I would recommend the Crane for Sunday breakfast (with Gospel Choir) or lunch (steelpan band). The location is spectacular.

The Cliff was very good, but very expensive. In my husband's opinion, the value just wasn't there. We liked Carambola, but preferred Calabaza. We also really enjoyed Tides, which I believe just won an award for best restaurant.

Hi Shari,

You are staying at the finest hotel. L'Acajou is wonderful, but also enjoy other places.

I'd suggest The Cliff - it's the finest on the island in a spectacular setting. Call in advance (before starting your trip) and make the reservation -- Table 50 is THE BEST.
They have a prix fixe menu - cost of $70 US per person (3 courses) - that plus drinks can easily run $250 US. Their service is impeccable, the setting stunning and the food - very gourmet. You will not be disappointed.

Carmabola also has a very romantic setting, and the food is excellent. We too were disappointed in their barman, but I wouldn't let that stop me from eating there again.

Calabaza is run by the former manager at The Cliff, so the same high standards are found here. They were very creative in their decor and you will find torches light here too. Excellent food and service.

Also, The Tides provides excellent food served in a creative way. Very nice setting.

I second Calabazza! We went for our anniversary and they wrote "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate on our desert plates. Very nice people, great food, great atomosphere..it's kind of three tiers to the ocean. The service was excellent too! OH, and very good food. Have fun!
