FF miles to use

Hello,

We have enough ff miles to go to anywhere in the caribbean that Delta flies (or Mexico). We're having a problem deciding where to do. We are a married couple in our 30's. We love to snorkel and scuba. We'd like to try somewhere "new". We've been to Antigua, Bonaire and Grand Cayman (a couple of times). Does anyone have any suggestions? We'd go either in April or July.

Thanks for your help!

An important thing to keep in mind when using FF miles is that there is a limited number of seats set aside FF travelers on each flight

I've heard from my friends who scuba that Cozmel, Mexico is one of the best places. I've snorkeled there and it was really good. Lots of fish!

CozUmel, that is...

Keep in mind that your skymiles are also good on partner airlines line Aeromexico and Air Jamaica which opens up a few other possibilities:

If snorkeling/scuba is a priority and since you've already been to Cayman and Bonaire, I would say try the Yucatan coast of Mexico.

I would highly recommend Bermuda. It's a beautiful island with great beaches. Plus it's a very short 1-1/2 hr flight. There are a variety of places to stay, as well as beaches to see. We used ff miles on American for our trip there this past week.

These are all great suggestions...but one thing I consider when redeeming miles is getting the most bang for my buck. I know that I can almost always buy a ticket to Jamaica or Bermuda for around $350, but if I wanted to fly to Anguilla or St. VIncent, it would cost me twice that. I realize that Delta doesn't fly to these places, so they would be out for you, but all the same you might want to consider which destination will give you the most monetary value for your miles.

Delta now also partners with Northwest and Continental, in addition to Air Jamaica, so that opens you up a bit. Unfortunately, the process for figuring out available codeshare flights on Air Jamica is close to a logistical nightmare. Using NW or CO partnerships is a bit easier.

If I were to choose where to go using Delta, I would pick Grenada or Curacao (using Air J flights), as they are both expensive for me to get to from my regional airport and I have never been to them before.

Good point ejcrowe about the NW and CO partnerships. It's so new that I sometimes don't think of it as an option. In my experience though, it's been far more difficult to redeem on either of those carriers than DL so I wouldn't have your heart set on a particular NW or CO destination until you have confirmed reservations.

I second ejcrowe,
I live in Florida and can get to the caribbean pretty simply and cheaply;

However it is over $1000/tix for Hawaii, so I think that is were we will go with our FF miles (however I am still trying to convinve my husband to go to Bermuda... thoughts on this??)

Thank you all for your responses. I went to Cozumel earlier this year, but didn't get a chance to scuba and wasn't with my other half. Mexico might be a good idea. Ruby - IMO the *only* downside to going to HI is the long flight there. We are going for Christmas this year - can't wait.

Whoops - hit send too soon.

Is Bermuda a good snorkel/scuba spot?
I know nothing about Curacao or Grenada - are these good snorkel/scuba spots, too?
