Favorite island and why?
What are your favorite islands in the Caribbean and why?
I'll start: Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, Out Islands in Bahamas (Harbour Island and Exumas) Virgin Gorda Because I'm all about the beach and hypnotizing turqouise water. |
For me, my favorites are usually the last island I came back from (Grenada) and the next island I'm going to (Cat Island -- tomorrow -- woo hoo!). Although I have a list of places I still want to visit, I've been lucky enough to have visited De Islands over 30 times, and I have a pretty good idea of what I love and what I don't like so much. So the places that get return visits are favorites, and the ones that are going to be visited someday are likely to become favorites.
As for the why... Grenada - for its lush mountains, geological diversity, beautiful people, varied beaches and fantastic local food (among other things). Cat Island - for its miles of stunning, empty pink or white sand beaches, for its blindingly blue crystalline waters, for its remoteness, for its mangrove creeks, for its mystical Hermitage, for the warmth of the welcome. Other favorites: Abacos, Grenadines, Jost Van Dyke, Belize cayes. |
Where is Cat island. I have never heard of that one...
|
Cat Island is one of the Out Islands of the Bahamas -- about 100 miles SE of New Providence (Nassau); due east of Exuma and south of Eleuthera.
I LOVE going to an island that gets that sort of response! (Used to be going to Provo got that response; when it stopped, I stopped going...). |
Cat Island and Long Island are on my list. 8-)
For everyone out there:Provo is in Turks and Caicos, one of my favs. |
The only island I've been to is Turks and Caicos which I loved. Next year I'll be going to Anguilla. After that, maybe Grenada.
|
St. Vincent and the Grenadines, no large resorts with the exception of Raffles on Canouan, mostly unspoiled from tourism, mountains and beaches, but most of all the friendliest people I have come across in all my Caribbean travels.
|
Once I've been to all of them, I'll let you know. ;)

Only been to a couple but so far my favorite is Turks and Caicos, because of the beach (of course) - and the wonderful snorkeling! My husband and I are all about great beach vacations with an ocean I can snorkel in for hours!!! ((l))((y))
|
Bequia! Cool little harbor, great bars and restaurants, no strip malls and factory eateries, no big cruise ships, no high rise hotels. Oh ya, and you can see Elvis play steel drums. It's just awesome!
|
Nevis. We love the people and feel it has the best of everything to see in the Caribbean as far as natural beauty. The restaurants are so different than other islands that we find the dining to be very exciting. Interesting sights that are unique.
|
St John- Beautiful calm water beaches, good snorkeling, and excellent scenic views.
Grand Cayman- excellent snorkeling,great beaches,lots of sites,great restaurants. |
I'm with calaloo on this one--my favorite seems to be either the one I've visited most recently (Bequia & Grenada in one trip), or the one I'm currently researching for my next trip (Virgin Gorda).

St. John --- it's beautiful beaches!!!
|
Blamona, we seem to have similar taste when it comes to islands in the caribbean. My favorites so far are
Anguilla - beautiful uncrowded beaches. The restaurants are so romatic and the food fabulous. Next is a toss up between Virgin Gorda and Bahama out islands (been to abacos and am very excited about going to Eleuthera in two days.) I found VG to be very quaint and enjoyed the beaches. And then Turks and Caicos (loved the beaches/water especially Sapodilla Bay but found it to be a bit more crowded than the above islands). |
Mntserrat - Because my family & I feel as though we are part of the Montserratian family, & because no one else goes there...
|
Pine Cay, Turks and Caicos is my favorite Caribbean Island for the beautiful never-ending beach, delightful water for swimming and quiet simplicity.
|
JAMAICA!!! I know people love it or hate it, but it's tops on my list- been there 13 times! I've been to other islands too, and it's just not the same. The people and the vibes, the music, make it the best!! It's hard to go anywhere else!!
