Family Vacation

We are a family of 8 who will vacation together for the first time, probably in mid-March 2006. Ages range from 68 to 11 years old. We will need relaxation for the older folks, some adventure for the rest of the group. Originally we though of Turks & Caicos but I cannot find anything that is of a moderate price. Costa Rico is too rocky. Any suggestions. Our budget is $2000 pp that includes air fare from NY/EWR or PHL. Help. The kids are getting restless and want to know where they are going. Appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Jonmadd,

Have you considered Curacao? My DH and I traveled with three teens during March 2004 and it was lovely.

Lots for all to do, or just relaxation for others.

We stayed at the Marriott, and would recommend it. I can fill you in on more if you have questions...

Good luck %%- Tiff

Wow, that's a wide age range. How about the Virgin Islands? Something for everyone! The price of airfare in mid-March might be a bit higher because of Spring Break/school vacation time but with 8, you might be able to get a package. There are direct flights from Newark to St. Thomas. I'd average the price around $500/pp roundtrip air. If you plan to spend a week that means you'd have $1,500 x 8 = $12,000. left for lodgings and other expenses. A 4-5 bedroom villa accommodating all of you could cost between $3,000 - $6,000+ depending on how extravagant and on which island you want to stay on. My personal favorite is St. John. That would leave you maybe $6-7,000 for car rentals, food, entertainment. Could easily be done with proper planning. Definitely rent a villa for that number of people. The economics are much better. Many nice villas have pools too. DO check out the Virgin Islands on the web. Good luck. If I think of any good villas, I'll let you know.

Thanks for the input. I was also thinking of the Virgin Islands and renting a villa. I will share your message with the rest of the family. If you can think of anything else I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Check out the Cayman Islands. They are $$$, but less than the Turks and Caicos. Some of the condos have 3 bedrooms. Go to caymanvacations.com to check it out.
