Family Re-union in Puerto Rico ages 2-75 Where to Stay???

Looking to go to Puerto Rico Feb of 2005 for a Family Re-union ages 2-75. Looking for a nice resort on the beach. Nice pool, golf near by, kids activities, close attractions to explore. Help! There will be about 20 people. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I just saw your post. I too am looking for a resort in PR for a family vacation. We range in ages 4 months - 72 years. Let me know if you get any suggestions and I'll do the same.

Resorts with a good range of facilities and activities to please different ages/tastes:

Hyatt Dorado Beach and Hyatt Hacienda del Mar -- Hacienda del Mar is on the grounds of the former Cerromar, next to sister resort Dorado Beach. There's a shuttle bus between the two, so you can enjoy the beach & facilities at both if you're staying in one of these. Hacienda del Mar is probably the better choice for a large group with kids because that's where the kids' activities, pools, etc. are. Hacienda del Mar is a timeshare apartments resort, but I've seen units for rent on the internet via travel sites like Expedia, Cheap Tickets, etc. So you can stay there even if you're not a timeshare owner. These resorts are west of San Juan, about a 45 minute drive. They're also not very far from the Camuy Caves, the Arecibo Observatory, and the Bacardi rum factory. The rain forest is about 1.5 hours' drive if traffic is not too heavy. These resorts have several well-known golf courses. In the town of Dorado there's a few good restaurants and there's often music & activities in the town beachfront.

Westin Rio Mar --
Kids' camp, golf, beautiful, long natural beach (dark golden sand and sometimes rough water, though). Close to the rain forest & Fajardo, where you can take snorkeling day trips to cays & small, surrounding islands. These snorkeling trips accommodate all ages & are usually crowd pleasers (check www.travelandsports.com under "snorkeling" for a list of operators & more details). This resort is about 45mins-1hr to San Juan.

Wyndham El Conquistador -
Kids' activities, golf, spa, several pools, but no beach next to hotel, beach is on private island & the hotel has a boat that makes regular trips to and from the island beach. This resort is in Fajardo, a little farther from San Juan than the Westin, but also pretty close to the rain forest.

There's lots of information on these large resorts on the internet, including user reviews for these & the ones listed below on tripadvisor.com.

More off the beaten path:
Villa Montana in Isabela - upscale, apartment-style accommodations (convenient for families or large groups). They have some sports & spa facilities, but no organized kids' activities. There's a company called Tropical Trail Rides that offers good horseback riding in this area. There's a golf course nearby in Punta Borinquen, Aguadilla. Isabela is also not far from the caves and the observatory. Check villamontana.com.

Nearby, also in Isabela, is Villas del Mar Hau (villasdelmarhau.com). Apartment-style units in two-story villas and more rustic wooden cottages. More budget, basic facilities, but you can do the same off-resort activities as in Villa Montana (horseback rides, Punta Borinquen golf, caves, etc.).

Isabela is a good base for exploring the west coast of PR, but farther from San Juan than the other listed resorts. Check www.gotoportadelsol.com for more information on this part of the island.
