Have been to Exuma over 20 times. Really like it. It is a step back in time and what the real Bahamas was like.
Laid back, quiet, not touristy not even a stop light on the island. Not familiar with Master Harbor Villas. Where are they located. We normally stay at Club Peace and Plenty in Georgetown where all the "action" is. As for dining Exuma isn't exactly a gourmet paradise. The best restaurant on the island is probably Peace and Plenty Bonefish lodge by the bridge to Little Exuma. Think they are only open for dinner Thurs thru Sun. Call and check. Club Peace and Plenty and Peace and Plenty Beach Inn both have restaurants which are good. There is also a good restaurant at February Point (don't remember the name.) Think they have a dance during the week Feb point is just south of Georgetown on the left. Coconut Cove also has a restaurant which seems to open and close at will. Used to be good and might be worthwhile checking out. A new place Palm Bay Beach Resort has a restaurant but don't know whether it is open yet. Palm Bay, Coconut Cove and P&P Beach Inn are right next to each other Two Turtles in Georgetown has a BBque and Dance on Fri
Night which is fun. Club P&P has a dance on Sat Night. For real local color Eddies Edgewater has a Rake and Scrape dance not sure which night. think Thurs but someone can tell you. Exuma Market in Georgetown is about the only market on the island. Suggest going to Stocking island for a day. Club Peace and Plenty runs a boat for their guests. Outsiders can buy a ticket. Think it's about $8. You can rent Boston Whalers for the day in Georgetown. Several places in town do snorkel trips. For local food Cheaters south of Georgetown has great cracked conch, you might try Capt Dans out by Steventon on the weekend and a trip to Baraterre to Normans Fishermans Inn is nice. Call first to see if Norman will be there. Good cracked conch. Really nice views from here. You might check out the new Four Seasons hotel they are building (Emerald Bay) out by Ocean Bight. If you have access to a library Wind From the Carolinas by Robert Wilder is a good book which is about Exuma. If you can't find it you can probably get it in the Sandpiper gift shop across from the Club P&P. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me. Thinking about Harbour Villas does it overlook Lake Victoria in Georgetown ???

howard -- your information on the island is so wonderful..thankyou. Sounds like you have not seen the new 4 seasons..I am considering a trip there in April with my husband and 3 small children.. I was hoping great exuma was not too developed. Is there a carribean island you might compare it to? I fear glitzy buildings, multi-story buildings, etc, etc. And, do you know any good websites with pics of the island? Thank you!

You don't have to worry about glitz on Exuma. It's not like Nassau and Freeport. That's why we go there and have been since 1970. Really laid back--the sun comes up sun goes down and the most exciting thing is what's for dinner. It really is a step back in time. Have not seen Four Seasons since it was completed but did during construction. It is about six buildings four stories high. Located in Ocean Bight which is about 20 miles from town.. Sort of out in the middle of nowhere. The beach at Ocean Bight is lovely. There are going to bo two Greg Norman golf courses--believe one is finished. Also supposed to have a Monte Carlo type gambling casino. Personally think the rates are out of site. Not sure the kids would find enough to keep them amused although they may have a kids club. I personally would look into the Club Peace and Plenty which is in town. You get the feel of real island life. They have three 2 bedroom suites which would work for you and probably a lot cheaper then Four Seasons. Drawback they do not have a beach. Do have a pool but they have a boat which goes over to Stocking Island each day. Stocking Island is realy nice. You can also rent a boston whaler and explore beaches all over Elizabeth Harbor. Don't know of a good web site with pictures. There are a few on www.peaceandplenty.com. The first week of April is Out Island Regatta so you want to avoid that. It is a zoo. Partying day and night. You might check when Peace and Plenty goes to off season rates. Probably mid April. In one of your other posts you mentioned Anguilla. We have been there 15 times. Anguilla is overdeveloped as compared to Exuma. Exuma is probably like what Anguilla was 30 years ago. If you have more questons you can e-mail [email protected]
