Expired toddler passport?

We are traveling to Turks & Caicos on Sunday 9th of Jan. I just realized that my sons (5yrs old)passaport is expired just 3 days ago. We are traveling with a group of 7 (3 kids and 4 adults) rest of the family is all up to date do you think they will let him travel if I just show up at the airport. I just don't know what to do if I leave with my daughter and have my husband try to extend the passaport on Monday they don't get to travel until tuesday and we are only staying for 6 days :( please help any information would be great. They will be missing about 3 days and on top of that we have to pay additional $1000 to change the flight.

First off a 5 YO is not a "toddler". Second, no one here can give you any assurances. Your child's Passport is expired and chances are he will not be allowed to travel. The airlines risk big fines if they allow someone with out proper documentation to board an international flight. You are taking a big risk by showing up at the airport with an expired passport.

One more point - it makes no difference what opinions the contributors on a travel forum may have - OP is at the mercy of 1) the Airline rep who checks her family in when leaving the US, 2) the Immigration officials in the T&C, 3) The airline rep who checks them in for the return flight and finally 4) the immigration official they meet upon return to the US. Any one of these people could become a major stumbling block and telling them the contributors on Fodors Travel Forum said it would be OK won't carry the least bit of weight.

Sorry OP but you are caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place.

They will not let him travel. Call passport agency, or your local consulate-might be the only thing.

The next option if not open on weekends, is 1 grownup and the 5 year old will have to stay and fly down Tuesday? If they are willing to help you that fast.

1 time they would not allow my 3 year to travel, we had to change our tickets to next day.

Good luck, and please let us know how it turns out.

PS the biggest problem would be coming back, the 5 year old will not be allowed to re-enter the US.
