Expedia Super Select

Hello,

Has anyone ever used expedia and done this super select? I'm really nervous. I feel like I'm going to get a horrible room. The upgrades were just really expensive and I figured I'd give this way a try.

Has anyone had experience with this?

I just don't want to be in the lowest of the low rooms. Guess that's the chance I'm taking though.

Has someone been in basic room at the Grand Lido Negril Resort and Spa?

any info would be great thanks

I am not sure what you mean by super select? We recently booked flight and room using expedia for a trip in February to St Thomas. I will be able to comment on how things went after the trip. I can't wait to go!!

I think it's very much up to the individual resort/hotel if you don't pay for an upgrade.

For example, I just used Expedia for two of the hotels I stayed in for a 3 week Grenada trip.

I went in low season and got HUGELY bumped up in both cases after paying for the lowest category of room. I got bumped all the way to beachfront in one (2 categories) when I paid for hillside, and I got a superior in the other case after I had paid for basic.

If this is for a Caribbean trip, and you are going during high season, the chances of getting upgraded without paying for it are much less than travel in the off-season (late April through mid November).

(I'm not familiar with the Super Select you are referring to, but I usually travel during low season and almost always get a free upgrade.)

We booked the basic room at Grand Lido years ago when we got married there. Once there we paid to upgrade. The only difference in rooms was the location. The basic room didn't an beachfront view but was identical otherwise to the more expensive one.

Thanks for your responses.

Diana, I guess it's not looking to good for my husband and I. We will probably get the lowest of the low. I keep checking expedia to see if the price goes up or down and its gone up like $2000 for a different room category.

jlillberto,if you don't mind how much was an upgrade? I always wondering if you slip the front dest a $100 bucks if they would upgrade. I always hear about people getting free upgrades. I know it's more of a possibility in the off season but does a smile or a $100 tip go along way. When you changed rooms you say it was more of a view and the actual room didn't change. How was the bathroom in the basic room before and after upgrade. We really enjoy a nice shower. We don't really do the bath thing when we are away.

Well thanks for your help guys..hope to hear from you soon

take care

Sorry but we didn't pay for the upgrade. Think it was because it was low season, I was a travel agent and we were getting married there. Friends we met on the plane paid like $300 to upgrade but like I said, that was years ago.

Luisa.

Don't worry!

Just give a big smile to the front desk staff when you check in. (That will sometimes get you a long way.)

Also, how much time are you going to spend in your room?

The more I travel in the Caribbean, the less important a luxe room is. I mean, I am on the beach or trampoosing around most of the day.

As long as it is clean and safe, how important is a marble bathtub or a huge view to me when I have been on the beach all day? :)

BUT, if this is a "trip of a lifetime" deal, it may be worth it to you to upgrade.

My guess is, you will be so tired from seeing all of the sights in Negril and enivirons, you will be happy just to have a comfortable place to sleep.

Don't buy into the "pay big bucks for the best room" spiel. Just go and have a great time! :D
