Expedia.com how do they do it???

Is Expedia.com accurate when they say a hotel is booked? Just wondering how they get their info.

I've booked numerous hotel reservations on Expedia with no problems. They are hooked into the reservations systems of most of the major hotel chains. That's how they get their info and are able to confirm availability and reservations.

I've also used them frequently with no problems.

Hi Kara,
I've also used both Expedia and Travelocity multiple times and found them to be very accurate and have the best prices.
Make sure you delete your cookies after you visit them though.
They send a lot of spam and I found that sometimes when I look for the same fare or hotel over and over, I can go back and get a better deal I thought I'd lost after I've deleted the cookies.
My guess this is to urge you to make a buy the first time if you've gone in before only to see the price rise when you check it again.

I have sometimes found that if Expedia says a hotel is booked, I can call the hotel directly and get a room. If you find a hotel you want to stay at and a price you want to pay, and Expedia says it's booked, call the hotel anyway -- you might get lucky.

Quite often this is because of bed allocations. Generally each tour operator is given a certain number of rooms. Once they are sold the tour operator will tell you its booked, even though 90% of the time its not.
This also goes for flights booked through tour operators too.

Or it's because you are trying to book too early. Many hotels, esp. in Mexico and the caribbean, haven't even submitted their winter rates to the discounters yet. Wait awhile.
