Estate Lindholm B&B, St. John, anyone stayed there lately?
 

I'm reading good things about this small inn, but sadly, the posts are all a little dated. We're considering a trip in June 2010. If you've stayed more recently than 2008 and can update what I've read, please post your impressions. Thanks! Saige

great property , and acceptable $$$.

I've driven by it 3000 times. I recommend you get map and GOOGLE earth view etc - the property is very nice and likely the folks do a good job - you want to be sure you like the scenery/location/site.

If you are beach nut or hot for big horizons view or want serious privacy isolation, you need to know what/where this place is. Many say the value received is very good - that may
be a deciding factor.

We stayed 2 years ago this march (2008).
I can't imagine its changed drastically since then - though I suppose you could call to be sure they haven't started any major construction projects or anything that would disrupt your stay.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Estate Lindholm. The place is not 5 star -- but it is very nice. The room we stayed in was relatively large with a nice wooden armoire, bed and a tile floor. There was a small kitchenette which came in handy for keeping drinks/snacks in the fridge. The rooms could be decorated better - but all the furniture was nice and in good shape. The bathroom had a strange glass wall enclosure and was slightly dated -- but the view from the shower window was wonderful!! The water pressure was low -- but apparently that's a problem island-wide due to water conservation. The best part of our room was the view. The room had a very private terrace with a spectacular view of the ocean. There were comfortable rocking chairs and a little dining table with chairs... it was ideal.

The inn's grounds are really lovely. The rooms are set amongst lush gardens, and there are winding pathways between buildings and to the main building. They serve a simple continental breakfast in the mornings with coffee, juice, toast your own bagels/waffles/toast, cereal, fresh fruit. It is basic, but was really all we needed. They also let you borrow coolers with ice, towels, beach toys and beach chairs -- which if you are renting a car is awesome!! We loved loading up our jeep in the morning and setting off for the beach. There is also an honor bar, where you can get drinks in the evening.

The location is ideal in my opinion. It is only a short walk (though down a big hill) into Cruz Bay. Its cheap and easy to catch a cab back up, or a really quick drive if you have a car. Apparently you can also walk to a beach -- but we never did.

In short, you are not getting 5star Caneel luxury... but you're not paying for it either. It is a small, authentic place with beautiful views, lovely grounds and comfortable rooms. I tend to be a bit snobby about accomodations, and I was very happy with our room and our stay.

Thanks for your posts! steviegene, I particularly appreciate all the detail included in your post. We tend to stay away from big hotels and resorts, just a personal preference, so this may be good property for us.

Its not resorty at all -- but also not a "true" bed and breakfast where you are staying IN someone's home (which can be uncomfortable). Its really a small inn.
Youre going to love St John -- we are STILL talking about our trip there 2 years later.
