Do you really need a passport or birth certificate to get to and from St. Thomas from the continental U.S?

If you are an American citizen you will need Government issued photo ID (ie..photo driver's license). But passports do make travel whether domestic or foreign a lot easier.

So Amy, you're saying I don't need a birth certificate? Thanks that's just what I wanted to hear.

To bcs<BR>What is the big deal about carrying your birth certificate with you? Do you not have one and are fretting about your travel? Does it take up too much space in your pocket? Are you lying about your age? Or maybe you are just plain stupid. <BR><BR>ToAmy:<BR>A drivers licence is a photo ID but it doesnot state that you are an American Citizen. USVI are Americam territories but a drivers licence does not prove that, it just proves that you have a licence to drive. Anyone can get a drivers licence from any country. You need doucmentation to prove that you are an American Citizen, and as you know you do not need to be a citizen to get a drivers licence. You need a birth certificate + photo ID OR a Passport (which is proof of US citizenship + photo ID in one document). Going to the USVI is not like going from Texas to New Jersey.

My boyfriend and I went 2 years ago. He was not a citizen at the time and had a green card - got thru customs with no problem. <BR><BR>I on the other hand, a citizen of the US, had my drivers license and my birth certificate. I was going thru a divorce at the time and my drivers license had a different last name than my birth certificate. I was hassled and it took me 3 times as long to get thru customs.<BR><BR>Go figure! Take your birth certificate and your license if you don't have a passport.

do NOT take any id at all. do not call the airline who will confirm what has repeatedly been posted here about the identification necessary for IMMIGRATION not customs. maybe the agent will be in a good mood that day and decide that you can still board without proper identification and the immigration will look the other way when you try to return. <BR>Otherwise ignore the trolls who are misleading you <BR>OR maybe you are the usual troll who does this all the time on this board and needs to get out more.
