Eleuthera Cartwright's Cottages

Just returned from a most relaxing 2nd trip to Eleuthera. Each time there is something new and wonderful to discover, not to mention, peace, lots of time for reading and forgetting about the time and agenda for awhile. 10 bay beach was a natural delight and of course, ask the Catwright's about a very lovely and secluded beach on the Atlantic side, Crystal Lite Beach! Thanks to all of you in Tarpum Bay!!! Lee J.

Well, chap, I guess you missed the part in the rules of use for this forum which bans commercial postings. To wit:

"Can I promote my business on your forums?
No, absolutely not. Fodors.com is one of the few major sites where travelers can come for unbiased, independent information about travel. Since our travel writers can't be everywhere at once, it's important that travelers be able to use our forums to get fresh-from-the-field updates and advice from other travelers. Please respect the integrity of Fodors.com and our forums, and find another way to advertise your business."

While I occasionally find Dougs posts annoying, at least he's being honest. He could easily log on under an alias, say oh, I don't know, Lee J. or something. But instead he comes right out and says he's Doug Cartwright.

Good Morning, I have browsed your message boards looking for other out islands to visit. I came across this message about Doug today. I am very surprised and displeased at your accusations. I was a guest at Cartwrights Cottages in Dec. 2000, and July 2001. I returned b/c of Cartwrights help and honesty. I had no clue at the time about traveling to another country. I travel alone, and safety is first and foremost. I am an administrative secretary in PA, and I assure you of my authenticity. I believe Fedor's to be very helpful in assisting others as myself who love to travel. I am very surprised at the suggestion that Doug is me. He is not! Matter of fact, if anyone, at anytime, has any questions what-so-ever about Eleuthera, you are more then welcome to call me at 215-536-2032. I am caucasian and not related in any way. I am a 52 years young woman, working in the professional field, who hopes to travel to other islands next year as well. I have been treated in Eleuthera as if I were a friend, their concern and kindness have been most impressive to me and I am not a writter. It is unfair of you to assume and I hope when I travel to other islands next year, I can trust in Fedors to give me honest and information as I have done to encourage those woman, as myself, who travel alone, that they are safe and secure in traveling to Eleuthera. Ladies, or anyone, any questions, please feel free to call me anytime after 5 p.m and if I'm not there please leave a message and I assure you all calls will be returned by me! Have a good day and thank you. [email protected], Pennsylvania, USA

No one is accusing you of posing as Doug Cartwright. You will note that after your post, there are several responsive/promotional ones from Doug...

Lee,

I did accuse you of being Doug in a round-about way, and if I was mistaken, I apologize.

LEE,
Why in the world would you put your home phone number on the internet? Are you really 52? Going on 12? You're asking for nothing but trouble....makes me wonder about your judgement, lady!

Even is Doug/Lee are different people, i've watched Mr. Cartwright post on this board numerous times over the past year. Despite many advisements by the Fodor's readers that promotion is not allowed or appreciated, Mr. Cartwright is still selling his business on this site. Mr. Cartwright's opinions are biased and do a disservice to readers. Sir, I think you would be better off spending some time putting more information up on the web (i.e. a website with pictures, description, rates) rather than the self-promotion here, which only serves to bring out comments skepticism.

Lee, thank you for your unbiased opinion. Regarding the reactions here, I suppose the reason why people are suspicious is because this place only has, what, 5 cottages, yet there appear to be quite a few people on Fodor's board who have gone there numerous times despite the fact that there is very little info on the web or with travel agents to promote it. I checked once after reading your Feb. 2001 post and found nothing.

Dear poster- there are several sites in wish to learn about Cartwright's Cottages in Eleuthera, www.bahamas-island-dreams.com ,www.bahamas.com and www.eleu.net to name a few, there are only 2 cottages and I am not the owner nor do I hold the title Cartwright .I give information about the island and the cottages as a source of information for all to see. And the inquiries have been very decent. You and a select few decided to post accusataions and you simply formed incorrect conclusions. I do know a great deal about the cottages and Eleuthera so therefore all opinions are not biased which helped many of the previous renters choose Eleuthera and has increased tourism tremendously.I am based in the US and travel to and from Eleuthera extensively. Fodor's edits the board when they feel that advertising occurs as I have seen messages informing readers of other places to stay removed.Information is avaialable to all, and those that have seen Eleuthera have been pleased. You would also note that the posters that have left messages have always enjoyed themselves and departed with a desire to return. But I must admit. I did hear about one guest who simply had the worst vacation mainly beacuse it rained her entire trip.As for the rest, and the vacation seekers, I recommend Eleuthera and the cottages for a great island vacation. And sir/maam, please do a bit more research when presenting the(not your) "facts". Thank you...

Interesting that you claim no association with this business, yet your email address bears its name. It also appears to be the address the owners provide as a contact point. Marketing manager perhaps? Commission recipient? Please do not try to make us believe that you are unassociated and providing unbiased opinions.

Regardless, it is easy for one to come to the conclusion that you are in some way, shape, or form associated with this place due to the fact that none of your posts ever recommend accomodations other than Cartwright's (despite your claimed familiarity with the island), and usually always end with a suggestion that a poster contact you for brochures.
