El San Juan or Caribe Hilton

Hi All,

I'm trying to find a good hotel to stay at for 2 nights before going on to BVI for our vacation. Wanted to stay a few nights to get a feel for PR. I would like to be fairly close to OSJ, some nightlife, and restaurants and on the beach. We won't be renting a vehicle.

Also, what is there to see & do for such a short time there to get a feel for PR? Any help you can offer, I'd sure appreciate it. I've read some so so reviews on both of these hotels, not sure. But don't want to spend more than $200/night, so Ritz is out, since we'll be spending a fortune in BVI!

Thanks in advance!

If you can get a room at ehe Wyndham El San Juan in your budget, it a very good hotel. It has the largest casino in San Juan, 8 or 10 restaurants, shops, it's own "nightlife, a hugh pool and it's on a very nice beach. It's 8 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from OSJ. There are lots of other shops and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

Thanks Sunnyboy! I've read posts on tripadvisor that the rooms have really become very run down and unpleasant, very noisy and dirty. That was my hesitation for ESJ.

Can you tell me the last time you were there?

thanks!

I was there about a year ago and everything in my room was very comfortable, well appointed and clean. I've stayed there 5 or 6 times in the last few years.

Don't confuse the Wyndham El San Juan with the ESJ Towers which is a condo/hotel located around the corner - now that place was built in the early 70's and hasn't been upgraded or painted since - still has earth tones colors and 70's decore. My secretary 9new at the time) inadvertantly booked me there instead of the ESJ 2 years ago and I took one look at the room and went to the Wyndham ESJ.

One hint, if you are concerned about noise (there's a main road right in front of all of the major beachfront hotels) ask for a room that's not on the roadside of the hotel.

Another hotel you might want to consider is the Intercontinental. Personally I don't think it's as nice as the El San Juan but it's pretty close and it's just next door.

Sunnyboy,

Ah, thank you so much! I really want to stay there, it looks like everything we would want for a 2 night quick stay. I know with everything, you have to take the posts on tripadvisor in context and sometimes w/a grain of salt. I've always had wonderful advice via fodors and it's always turned out terrific. Thanks again for your advice. I'll book us at the Wyndham ESJ!

Since you've been often, is there something that you feel is a must do?? Or must eat at??

Thanks again!
