Econo Best Buys for couple?

My wife and I -- newly married -- have a VERY limited budget. We`d like to enjoy our belated honeymoon this summer on an island, quiet location -- near or on the beach. She`s sensitive to biting bugs. We`ve got to consider travel and eating costs. We want simple accommodations -- nothing fancy -- but clean.

Prefer posts to this forum so people can share responses. Thanks! :)

Neil-
I just noticed that the airfares to Barbados-at least from the NYC area-dropped from $650 to $358 if you can travel during certain times. Both American Airlines and Air Jamaica have some excellent air/land packages right now as well. But the reason I would recommend Barbados is twofold - one) if you're going in the summer you will be south of the typical hurricane track there, and two) I have been going there since I was right out of college and was on a limited budget myself - I can give you some great, very affordable places to eat. I would recommend the south coast as is it much more reasonably priced and the beaches are still great. What is your price range? There is a great hotel, one of the best values, at this site: http://web.idirect.com/~seabreez/ and if I remember correctly their summer prices are about $80 a night (maybe less, $60?). But this is a beautiful hotel! There are places that are even less expensive than that. IF you're interested, e-mail me and I'll direct you to some others. Cathy

Thanks, Cathy, for your helpful ideas. Sylvie and I checked out the site you suggested . . . it seems about right, if we can snag an econo fare . . . if not, you mentioned other nice accommodations in the area -- ideally we'd like to be on or very close to the beach -- away from noise. Also, if we go with the suite, we think we could save some money by doing some meals at home. Any idea about accesability / cost of groceries? . . .

You also mentioned some nice restaurants. We'd appreciate hearing your advice. We've sent away for the official Barbados travel info.

Once again, thanks, Cathy, for your helpful information and suggestions!
