Driving in Barbados
 

I know this has been discussed in other threads, but I just wanted to clarify some things about driving in Barbados.

Is it any different than the driving conditions of other Caribbean islands?

I have driven rental cars in Tortola, Nevis, and St. Kitts. Would the driving in Barbados be much different than these or similar places?

Driving in Barbados is easy.
Rented a jeep last year for a week and had no problems what so ever, it actually made the holiday as we had freedom to go and do as and when we pleased.
Dont be tempted to go the direct route to where you are going though, always take the abc highway (if in the south)or stick to the main highways as smaller roads are very twisty and will take you twice as long

Just returned and had thought about renting a car for a day or two to explore. Many of the roads are extremely narrow and in quite poor condition so we opted to take the buses which was a fun experience and cheap - 1.50 per trip. They come along frequently and we had no problems. Went to Bathsheba , Earth Works pottery, Ostins and Bridgetown by bus.
I've driven on Cayman and am used to driving on the "other side" of the road. However - not in Barbados. Just my opinion.

BTW, nobody mentioned that unless you're British, you drive on the wrong side of the road, you drive on the wrong side of the car and you shift (never saw an automatic rental) with your wrong hand.

We always rent automatic cars -- like Corollas, etc. You do drive on the left, but at least with the automatic cars, shifting is not a problem. You just pay slightly more for an automaitc shift. We rent through Stoutes, but others have automatic as well. Also, we get a/c and it's great.

We drove in Barbados all over the island , making stops at diferent places , downtown , beaches , sights - no problem with either the roads or people .
