Driving distance between Montageo Bay and Negril?
 

Thinking about splitting a stay in Jamaica between Montego Bay and Negril. How long would the drive be from one to the other, and what would you suggest for transportation (ie. bus, renting a car for the day, taxi, etc...)? Thanks

MoBay-Negril:1 hour via new coast road;1.5 via B8 cross mountain road, the more interesting route. MoBay-Ochi:2-2.5 hours with new road under construction. Private PPV certified/insured guides and pros like Solamon in Negril and The Barretts in MoBay are preferable to taximen,JUTA drivers, car rental and bus, the last of which you'd not want to take in any circumstances. Driving's hard on island,outside the mains, which is where you'll want to explore with potholey roads. Unless you're real intrepid, recommend you honeymoon explore with a good guide. You'll see more of island and enjoy more off the beaten track.

Ochi to Negril's a long trip --3 hours or so, depending on traffic. Hire a driver or fly from Boscobel Aerodrome,just outside Ochi into Negril.
