Dress Code for Grand Cayman

Are there dress codes for the restaurants and other places on Grand Cayman Island?

Not for all but the best restaurants BUT remember it's a very upscale, conservative island and you don't want to be embarrassed. Better over-than-under dressed.

Like most islands, casual elegant is the key at night. I steer away from really fancy places because I don't relish the idea of dressing up in the tropics on my vacation OR lugging a garment bag.

A t-shirt & shorts are fine most places during the day & at places like Lone Star, etc. For nicer places in the evening, Docker style shorts or pants & shirt w/collar for men & sundress for women in the evening at the mid-range places or hotel. Simple sandals (not flip flops or tennies) for both. We dressed that way for the Lighthouse at Breakers & felt at ease. They seated a couple wearing t-shirts, but as the waitstaff was impeccably dressed, the table very nicely appointed & the food presented beautifully, it was obvious they felt out of place.

I agree with not carrying a garment bag! This is vacation! A lot of the more upscale restaurants on all the islands, not just GC, ask that you not wear shorts after 6 PM. We have never felt under dressed or out of place in dockers, collared sport shirt for him, sun dress or nice slacks and top for me.

Thanks for the tips. You never know what is required in different countries or areas. If I don't have to, I would rather not lug too many clothes if I will not need them...
