DR-Recommendation for nice hotel for relaxation, good food & white sanded beach

My boyfriend and I would like to travel to Dominican Republic but we are not sure what part of the country to stay in? We both enjoy relaxation( especially massages), good food and white sand beaches. We enjoy staying in hotels comparable to the Marriott, Hyatt, and more upscale hotels like the Ritz carlton , Four Seasons etc. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks.

The DR is more of a budget vacation and you won't find the high end resorts with the exception of Casa de Campo. Punta Cana has the better beaches but it is also crowded with huge hotel complexes that cater to the budget traveller. Most of the hotels are AI and the food is medicore and not gourmet in any way, shape or form. The restaurants at Casa de Campo were excellent.

In Jan we stayed at Iberostar Bavaro in PC. Everything was tops - rooms, beach, food. Not budget. There are no tall hotels on PC such as on Paradise Island. The resorts are more laid back, 2-3 stories high. Relaxing, not high powered. You can see a lot of the hotels and resorts of DR, with ratings, on the Apple vacation site. "Debbies" is invaluable for reports.

from the information i've researched the best hotels seem to be in punta cana at either Paradisus, Melia Caribe/tropical or Barcelo Bavaro Palace. I hope this helps
