Dominican Republic vs. Costa Rica

We are looking to travel to either the Dominican Republic or Costa Rica the end of March for 8 nights. We are looking for beach and kayaking, hiking, biking and ziplines. In researching both DR & CR, it seems that CR has more to do in this regard and DR is more geared to sunning. It could very well be that I haven't done enough research. Having said that, is there anyone that has been to both places and which would you recommend based on what we would like to do.

We have a 14 year old daughter so night life is not high on our list. Is one less expensive than the other. Is all-inclusives better on DR? We wouldn't do an AI on Costa Rica.

Thanks for your help,

You are correct that what you describe sounds a LOT more like Costa Rica, than it does the DR. I have only been to the DR myself.

Thanks suze for the confirmation.

Been to both

www.visitcostarica.com your best bet

www.skytrek.com best zip

www.desafiocostarica.com for other adventures

www.arenal.net

www.tabacon.com

www.manuelantoniopark.com

www.tulemar.com for beach

www.villacaletas.com around your flights for something special

DR more beachy La Romana area nice for upscale golf beach

North browner beaches ok not great so CR is best for me.

www.ruralcostarica.com Rio Celeste for amazing hike.

Usually rent a car with www.mapache.com save a tonne.

Happy Journey,

Been to both with pre-teen daughter.

Agree with others - DR is for beach, pool, mega AI resort, have everything there. You will probably stay in the same resort for 8 nights.

CR is for adventure. All things you named can be done in CR very easily. You will probably visit 2-3 different places, No AI but you can go to town & enjoy the local restaurants.

My daughter & I both recommend Costa Rica for what you are looking for.

...beach and kayaking, hiking, biking and ziplines.

Have not been to CR. But all the above are available in Punta Cana, DR area.
I do go there for the BEACH, but others enjoy these and other activities in Punta Cana.
