Dominican Republic for Christmas?

We are going to punta cana for Christmas with about 16 people, 4 families. We've heard all-inclusive are the best way to go. Any recommendations? We've heard Iberostar, or Barcelo Babaro Palace are pretty nice, would love to get some input and if there are better ones out there.

I just returned from DR/Punta Cana. What are your expectations and previous experience in the Caribbean? Personally, I did not enjoy nor would I recommend DR but there are others who love it. About your only choice there is all=inclusive. We saw few, if any, restaurants that would likely appeal outside of the hotel properties. Driving would be a huge issue especially wih 16 people. Security also looked sketchy outside of the hotels where we saw guards every 100 yards or so along the beaches and on the grounds.

I would go with the Iberostars or you might also want to look into Paradisus. They are both wonderful resorts.
You better hurry if you want to book anywhere for the Christmas holiday.
Have you considered Mexico's Riviera Maya area? There are great Iberostar's there too and we find the service in Mexico to be better.

schmerl,
I've never vacationed at an Iberostar, but have heard great things about them. Where in Mexico did you stay? I love Mexico, and would appreciate your input.

BTW, which Iberostar did you stay at in the DR? The Hacienda Dominicus looks really nice, and Bayahibe has an incredible beach.
Thanks!

Karin.
I stayed at Excellence in PUnta Cana, not an Iberostar. I stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso complex in the Riviera Maya and LOVED it.
Mexico offers more to do off site of the resorts.
