Dominican Republic Apartment

Want to stay about a month the winter of 2015 in a nice but lower cost apartment. We may take some friends but right now we are looking for a one bedroom on a beautiful beach in a quiet location, with a pool if possible. I am looking for recommendations. I would like to keep the cost around $1000 if possible.

We have never been to the DR before and want to stay away from the AI scene if possible.

I am looking at recommendations for places to stay but also beaches to consider that are beautiful but not too crowded.

It would be nice to be close to a major city but not too close. We will have a car.

I know there are other areas around the island popular for house rentals hopefully others will see this post and chime in about them with current information.

The two towns above are where I've been in the DR (plus Santo Domingo) but too many years ago to have accurate information to pass on.

If you want to avoid the AI crowd, Playa Grande and Cabrera are exactly what you are looking for. You should easily be able to find a place within your budget. there are more houses than apartments, though. But you can still rent a whole house within that budget, just might not be on the water. The beaches here are gorgeous and there are several where you will likely be the only people on the beach if you go through the week.
