Ok, so I think I have my friend talked into going to the DR next year instead of Cancun (only because we have been there before). My questions is this:
1) As anyone stayed at Crown Villas? We are thinking of getting at least a 4-6 bedroom (depending on the # of couples that go).
2) What about the Cofres Beach?
3) What about nightlife in that area?
4) How safe of an area is it?

We've just booked a trip to Punta Cana. I'm not sure what region you planned to visit, but I hear that the beach is nicer in Punta Cana than Puerto Plata. However, Puerto Plata is always a bit cheaper and apparently has more nightlife.

I hope Puero Plata has some nice beaches and shopping. My husband wants to do some snorkeling.

We did not go there. I would very carefully at DR. It is not a safe place. You do not go off the property, unless by tour bus. We stayed at Riu Palace, Punta Cana. Never go there again. Do not drink the water or let it get near your mouth.

Did you or the people in your party fall ill?? We were there 6 years ago to Natura in Punta Cana. The resort was lovely, but at that time it was very desolated. Nothing around there at all, and my husband was very ill after we got home. I have contemplated taking a change to return, I had heard good things about the Riu's.

several tiimes in the DR but not at crown villas.....you may want to put Crown Villas in your subject inquiry....

As far as safety goes - use your head and you will be fine. Yes there is crime, but many travllers unwittingly invite it upon themselves.
