Stayed at Beau Rive in April and thought it was an absolute gem.

Don't know anything about the others you mentioned.

Joanada,
Papillote is wonderful in a lush setting, natural hot springs and great food. The rooms are definitely not luxury, but the atmosphere is worth it.

For birding on the island, contact Bertrand Jno Baptiste (aka Dr. Birdy). We spent two great days with him during our trip. His email address is [email protected]

Have a great trip!

second the enthusiastic recommendation for beau rive. great place, great views great food and an incredible host in Mark Steele.
Not sure about the birds though.
Like the other person said, Papillote is much more rustic, but also very nice and very lush setting.
The sulphur baths are great!

Papillote has a wonderful restaurant- even if you don't stay there, it's definitely worth the trip for a tasty meal. And if you're lucky, the house cats may even join you. Jungle Bay is newer, and while they had some setbacks with construction, I've heard good things. Plus I think they offer some yoga and other holistic treatments.

I stayed at the Zandoli Inn a few years ago and loved it! It was beautiful and peaceful and the owners were wonderful.

I can't tell from their website if they are still the owners, but it is worth checking out.

I then stayed a few days at Papillote and honestly just wanted to go back to Zandoli. I didn't think the restaurant was that tasty, didn't care for the staff, wasn't enamored by the mineral bath and wanted to put a muzzle on the peacock at 3 AM.

With that said however, it does constantly get good reviews.

The hiking is just wonderful on Dominica and I'm very glad I saw Boiling Lake although it was a tortorous h ike because the other people who went hiked very slowly. I have heard that boiling lake isn't boiling anymore.

I second Zandoli. I stayed there last March and am returning again in 2007.

We loved our room - it had a spectacular view looking down on Grand Bay. The owner and staff were wonderful - very informal yet upscale at the same time. We ate most of our dinners there - food was very good. Also, good snorkeling on the property (you do have to walk down a series of steps to get to the water though).
