Do Not Fly Cape Air to Virgin Gorda

I am a property manager living and working on Virgin Gorda. I pick-up guests at the Virgin Gorda airport on a daily basis.

I strongly caution anyone considering flying Cape Air to Virgin Gorda. So far this season 90% of my guests who arrive with Cape Air do so without their luggage. I would avoid this airline at all costs!

Cape Air fills their flights with people and then because of weight restrictions does not have room to take the guest's luggage. To add insult to injury, they do not tell the guests prior to boarding that their luggage will not be on the flight. In addition, their staff is less than helpful in helping guests reunite with their bags. They provide bad information about the location of the bags and when the bags will be brought to Virgin Gorda. They often have us chasing the bags for up to two full days after the guest's arrival. They are ruining people's vacations on a daily basis. Consider yourself warned!

Call or email Dan Wolf at Cape Air. Look under "Corporate" on their website.

He is the CEO and is committed to excellent service. If there is a problem -- flying luggage separately is normal in the commuter plane industry -- he will want to know.

This will be much more effective than a blanket "Don't fly" post.

Unfortunately the OP won't see your good advice -- just registered (here and on other sites), posted his complaint and left . . .

Just a complainer - not looking for help.

I am on the way home from Virgin Gorda etc, janis.

Should I post a message "Don't rent property from anyone who signs himself "VGPM"?"

We should all thank the property manager for warning us instead of the rude comments others posted. I 100% agree do not fly to Virgin Gorda on Cape Air. I flew there November 2015 for my elopement wedding. There were 7 passengers on the plane and only 2 people got their luggage. All of our luggage did not make it, including the bag with my wedding dress in it. No one seemed to be concerned that none of us had our luggage. Also..if this is your first time to the island, and you lose your luggage, there is no Walmart, Target or store to buy clothes, undwear, bras, etc. It is a very small island. Our luggage finally did show up. On our return flight back to the U.S. Cape Air lost all of our luggage (again) and we came home with no luggage. Our luggage showed up at our house at 11pm 2 days after returning home. As the property manager stated...this is a very common thing that they do not tell you. We are heading back to Virgin Gorda in 2 weeks and I refuse to have our luggage not put on the plane by Cape Air so we are instead flying into St. Thomas and have chartered a private plane for the 15 minute flight, and no luggage is ever left behind.

What was your connecting airline?

You didn't fly the whole way to VG on Cape Air. Who out you on Cape Air rather than another airline?

Could it have been lost in a transfer?

Where did you start? Where did you change planes?

You mentioned that VG is a very small island without the kind of commercial infrastructure that you are used to. A lot of airlines provide service through airports that are less sophisticated than airports in larger places. Stuff happens.

I would get in touch with the president of the airline and ask him how he explains what happened. I know for a fact that he is personally committed to customer service. His contact information is above.
