Do I need a car in Cayman Island?
 

Would like to know if I need a car on Cayman. Will stay for 6 nights, 7 days. How much would it cost me from Airport to 7 miles beach. Thanks.

That depends on where you are staying on SMB and if you are interested in seeing any of the rest of the island.

I'd either taxi to my hotel and then take the bus the rest of your stay or I'd rent a car. I've rented a car for years and have not paid attention to taxi prices of recent years. Last trip I found out that it would cost approx 30US to go from Holiday Inn out to Cracked Conch Restaurant (one way) and approx 20US to go into town. That makes round trip costs out of sight. A bus is 2 dollars per person.

As I was told by Sandy and others in this group, it really is a personal preference and relative to where you are staying.<BR><BR>We were at Aqua Bay on the north side so I am glad we had a car. We drove to the golf course at Safehaven and as far south as the Lighthouse restaurant. Cab fare would have been insane there.<BR><BR>The busses are OK but do stop running at some point. If you are in the heart of 7mb then you may not need a car for the whole time. We saw people walking all over-including a family of three pushing a shopping cart on the sidewalk.<BR><BR>You can always rent a car at the airport and then if you decide later you do not need it, bring it back. I would defintely have it for a day or 2 so you can travel around the island.

We rented a small car from Budget while we were in GC and I think it was less than $30 a day. If cost is a consideration, I recommend that you rent a car for a couple of days and plan to explore the island and check out some wonderful places to snorkel.

I agree with Sue! We rented a car for a couple days while in GC, and travelled the island in search of great snorkelling spots and restaurants. It was nice to have the freedom, and fun to drive on the left! But we didn't need the car for the whole week.

It would help with being able to do what you want when you want. Though most dive operators have hotel pick up.

You will want a car on grand cayman, for the whole trip. pick it up at the airport, and drop it off at the airport. enjoy.<BR>cay

To more fully enjoy your stay, yes! Most everyone rents a car. Just remember...drive on the left.
