Direct Flights from SFO
So, I think we can carve out a week in November for a vacation. We usually do two weeks in the islands because it's a long trip from San Francisco. :(
Anyway, I am looking for some place that we can get to on a direct flight from SFO. We tend to go to smaller places (Montpelier on Nevis, Biras on Virgin Gorda, Spice Island on Grenada), nice and quiet, good food. No need for nightlife, casinos, etc. A/C and screens on windows are a plus! Those dang mozzies eat the wife up alive. And, in case you were wondering, we have done Kauai and Maui and are not adverse to going somewhere else in Hawaii, but thought I'd check with the experts in the Caribbean! Thanks, Dave |
I don't know much about flying to the Caribbean from SFO but if you are looking for a direct flight (either non-stop or a stop en-route without changing planes which meets the strict definition of "direct") your choices of island destinations are going to be limited to those islands that are serviced by big jets: Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, St. Martin, Grand Cayman, Antigua, Barbados, Aruba, St. Thomas and possibly St. Lucia. The thing is, you may not be able to get to some of those islands without changing planes.
You definitely cannot get to any of the Bahamas, the Turks & Caicos, the BVI's, Anguilla, St. Barths, St. Kitts, Nevis, Grenada, Dominica Martinique, Guadalupe, Barbuda, St. Vincent, the Grenadines, Curacao and Bonaire "direct" from SFO. Hopefully somebody on this forum can give you more detailed information. |
I'm not aware of any nonstops from SFO to the Caribbean. I know you can fly nonstop to Jamaica on Air Jamaica, but that might be the only nonstop from the west coast.

You can do same day service to Antigua with Delta, US Air and AA. Check out Hermitage Bay - sounds like it might suit you. You could also do same day service to St Lucia - check out Jade Mountain, Ti Kaye and Ladera. Barbados is another option - The House would be a fabulous option.

Agree I don't know of any non-stops from SFO to the Caribbean either.
You can connect same day to anywhere with non stop afternoon or early evening departures from MIA on AA (Grand Cayman is one)...via MIA with one stop is how I get to SFO from Cayman. You'd also have options from CO out of Houston, AA out of DFW (perhaps), DL out of ATL |
