Dilemma: One night in Puerto Rico--- Wyndham Old San Juan or Radisson Condado?

Also, a nice recommendation for a romantic dinner in Old San Juan?

Know nothing about the Radisson but we have stayed several times at the Wyndham OSJ and thinks it's a great place to stay. You can easily walk into Old San Juan and explore the city. There are several nice restaurants at El Convento that might suit your needs.

If you decide to sta at the Radisson consider eating at Ajilo Mojili. Puerto Rican fare.

For just one night, I would go with the Wyndham Old San Juan, so that you can enjoy walking around the old city at night. The Radisson is nothing special & it's on a spot in Condado that doesn't have a usable beach. For nice dining in Old San Juan: Aguaviva (seafood), Tantra (Indian), Trois cent onze (French), Amadeus (creative Puerto Rican). Parrot Club (new Latin) is hot, but too loud to be romantic. Dragonfly (latinasian)is also popular, but might be too popular to be romantic.

You guys are the best! I am surveying you experts and will continue to listen :-D

I strongly recommend the Wyndham if what you're looking for is hanging out in Old SJ. The Radisson is pretty old, as PRnative said, no special beaches, and there's not much to see at a walking distance. The Wyndham is a great hotel, the casino's pretty cool,is very centric. The only thing I wouldn't stay there is because it's far from the beaches, but if your plans are exploring OSJ it's just perfect. I also recommend El Convento, which is right in the heart of OSJ, but it's also a little expensive. Try not to miss dinner at Ajili Mójili, is one of the best restaurants in PR, and their new location is great, it has a beautiful terrace right in front of the lagoon, just perfect for your romantic evening, although it's in Condado, not in OSJ. For dinner at your requested area consider the ones that PRnative listed, except for Amadeus, yeah the food is great but 1. way expensive, 2. if you got to see the kitchen you'd never eat there (if you know what I mean ;)).

Hi Maira,

You never specified the date of your travel. We are going to PR next week and would be staying at the Radisson Condado before we go driving around the island and next week on our way back home we will be staying at the Wyndham Old San Juan. I would let you know then how my experience was. If you have already traveled let me know what did you decide eventually...

rups--- thanks for the kind offer. The travel will be in Feb '04 and I should clarify that the information is for friends on a very special trip. Thanks again and looking forward to hearing from you. :-D

I will be staying at the Radisson on 1 November and can also provide some feetback.

Maira, is that you, my friend?

Monica

YESSSSSSS!!! How you doing, girl :-D!! Here I am trying to help some good people heading out to PR (I stay with family when I go and this is the best place to hear from first-hand experience). Please, if you don't mind posting back your experiences with the Radisson.

Have the best time in PR! For the best seafood head out to Cabo Rojo o La Parguera; it's a bit of a drive from San Juan, but it is where the best seafood restaurants (and great snorkeling!) are. Hope all is well! Miss you in the Europe Forum!! :-)

Hi Maira!

How is your husband doing? I hope he is well, as well as you. Please email me directly - [email protected].

I haven't been on the Europe forum for a while. I take a look once in a while. I'm excited about my trip, which is in less than 2 weeks! We'll be in San Juan for just 1 night, then head to the port for a 7-night cruise with Princess. I think we'll do the Bacardi factory tour this time. I wish I had more time there.

Let me ask you about restaurants: Several fodorites listed Metropol as being very good. I also saw Tropical, which is closer to our hotel. Would you know if Metropol is less expensive or the same price as Tropical. Tropical has a web site and lists their menu http://www.tropicalrestaurant.com/Re...gual_menu.html

Thanks, and I hope to hear from you. Take care,

Monica
