Diamonds and Jewelry in St. T.

Are all those jewelry stores in St. Thomas really giving good deals? My wife wants some new diamond ear rings for her anniversary and we are traveling to the area in January. Should I shop there or wait until I come home?

Any suggestions for the best shops?

My advice would be to KNOW what you are buying and what the price would be at home. Sometimes you can get a buy but many times not.

I have no doubt you will get a better deal at your local quality jeweler.

We were in STT with some friends and they were looking at diamond rings and earrings. She was in shock at how high the prices were. She did buy some jewelry, but mostly felt that the prices back home were better. Look at stores at home first for what your wife wants and then compare in STT. If they are lower, than go ahead and purchase them. This way you won't come home and realize the better deal was there all along.

Of course a lot will depend on where "back home" is but as others have said you really have to know the what market is for jewelry in order to determine if you are getting a bargain or not. Make sure you do your homework before making your trip then decide.

About 10 years ago my wife bought an expensive watch in St. Martin. We went to a reputable store, and she knew the prices. She still wears it.

My suggestion is that you should buy only in a reputable store when you know the prices. And keep in mind that prices may be negotiable.((F))
