Destination Wedding - which island?

We are thinking of having a destination wedding next year in late May. Does anyone have recommendations on where to go? We are debating Bermuda or Bahamas. Haven't been to the Bahamas in years, would anyone say it was dirty? Bermuda too expensive for guests? We don't want a flight that is too long. Most of family is from Philly area.

Aruba, Grand Cayman or the BVIs.

For even closer islands though, try Turks and Caicos or Key West

Steph, Jamaica would be beautiful, especially Negril. It wouldn't be a bad flight, and your dollar will stretch further (depending on where you stay). I have heard great things about Turks and Caicos.

I was married in Antigua last year and would recommend it, although it is a long flight. We left at 7 in the morning and arrived at the resort at midnight. It was a pain (although well worth it). I have found shorter flights now(shorter layovers). Good luck and congrats!

We actually got engaged in Negril, Jamaica last April. Would love to go back there to get married but the only thing is the trip from the airport to Negril. We are expecting quite a few guest and would like to make travel as easy as possible. Thanks for the reply though.

Compass Pointin the Bahamas is a smaller, intimate resort but very beautiful. The resort as two story cabana's oon the water's edge, smaller studios, etc...each very vibrant in colr and so adorable. Food is excellent and it is close to the airport.

I beleive the web site is www.islandoutpost.com

If youhave some money to spend, Ocean Club is supposed to be the incredible.

Bermuda any day over Jamaica. Many people on here love St. John or St. Barts. Don't go the Bahamas.

Steph, my sister got married in Bermuda
in 1989. The weather was perfect, the sky blue blue! The bride and groom left the church, by lovely horse and carriage. Its a beautiful island, lots
to see and do. An elegant little gem, a real treat. A short trip from Philly!
Have been to this island many many times, its very special! Lots of accomodations in many price ranges! Restaurants too!

I would say the outer islands of the Bahamas not Paradise Island or Nassau or perhaps Key West which is closer (at the Wyndham or similar property).
Another beautiful area is Naples, Florida at the Ritz Carlton or similar property.
Another choice would be Newport, Rhode Island where you can have your wedding at one of the mansion hotels. We went to a Newport wedding last year it was beutiful--wedding guests went out on a schooner after the reception!
I got married in July 2001 in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos and I highly recommend it. We got married at the Ocean Club and honeymooned at Coral Gardens. We chose Turks & Caicos because we have family in CT, MA, and NY and needed a great caribbean destination that was only a couple of hours away. The staff at the Ocean Club took care of everything - from booking, decorating, and staffing a party for 25 with accomodations. The wedding turned out beautiful and all of our family still raves about the trip.

Steph, I'm in the EXACT same situation. Looking where to get married for summer 2004, with family coming from Chicago and NYC. We were pretty set on Jamaica, but I have to say my view has been a little tainted from what I've read overall. Thanks everyone for the feedback. It's SO helpful.

We just got married October 2002 on St.John. We have traveled quite a bit in the Caribbean. This was absolutely our favorite. Unspoiled, gorgeous. About 20 people came with us from all over the East Coast. USAir has a great deal to St.Thomas, then you take the ferry to St.John. Awesome. We rented villas through cvoa.com. Much more affordable. Overall, the best experience ever.

St John Jan 24th, 2003 10:56 AM

Yes, I agree with Trish. A wedding on St. John is wonderful and there are great villas to choose from.

A beautiful island indeed. Look into getting married after 5:00pm when there is hardly anyone on the beaches. That was our experience on Trunk Bay. One of the most photographic beaches in all of the Caribbean. It's paradise.

Best wishes.

My huband and I vacationed at Ocean Club in Turks and Caicos. Check it out. It was a 3 1/2 hour flight (direct from Boston on Saturdays only). We loved it there.

If you live on the east coast-Bermuda.

Bermuda is a beautiful, clean, civilized and close place.
