Deet-Free Bug Spray??
I read on here at one time a couple names of bug sprays that were Deet-Free?? Does anyone have the names of these??
|
Don't know the names, but just as an aside, I am extremely attractive to bugs, and NOTHING I used that was DEET-free worked in the Caribbean.
You can get varying %'s of spray with DEET. Maybe get one that has a lower percentage? |
Avon Skin-So-Soft and Cactus Juice are DEET-free. I thought I remembered reading that Repel also is, but I meant to check my Repel at home to see if that was so. The best thing I've used in the Caribbean are Cutter Wipes. I find them slightly miraculous.

Where can I get cutter wipes?
|
All of the Cutter wipes have DEET, but all of the the Cutter products are the best imho.
You can get them at most large chain stores like Wal Mart, etc., or at sporting goods stores. |
I think you can get them at Walgreens - I've gotten mine at my local hardware store.

There are plenty of DEET-free products but they just don't seem to be as effective. Our whole family uses DEET products but I try to keep the contact on direct skin to a minimum. e.g. hair instead of face, clothes and skin that is away from eyes, nose, mouth etc. We use plenty of it around dusk and at night and have experienced no problems. When my daughter was an infant, I did stick primarily to non-DEET on her.

I've heard REPEL is good, a non-deet product. I picked some up at REI but haven't tried it out yet.

lemon eucalyptus works for many folks. works great for my husband, not always perfectly for me. If you use deet products, be sure you wash it all off when you get inside and don't need it anymore.

Cactus Juice in heavy concentration often works,
In real bad areas of mosquitos-Asia, Honduras I use Ben's-90% DEET. It is o.k according to my immunologist for a 1-2 week period but not for prolonged use. |
