Day Trip to Statia from Saba
I'll be in Saba for a week at the end of March and would like to take a day trip to Statia.
Is this possible? Has anyone made Saba homebase to do a tiny bit of island hopping?
Any reccomendations would be great.
thanks

I have been in Saba and gone to Statia for the day. There are pretty convenient flights - I forget the exact times - but it allowed for a whole day in Statia. (Something like leave at 8 AM and return around 4 PM). The flight only takes about 15 minutes. If in Saba for a week, a day trip is worthwhile.
You could also easily go to St. Maarten for the day, if you are not staying over there at the beginning or end of your trip. Anyplace else would take two flights and probably be more expensive. In theory you could go to St. Bart's, Anguilla, St. Kitt's, but I am not sure if it would be worth it, and the time between flights might add up.

Howard- is there enough to do on Saba and Statia(if you are not a diver) to stay there for a few days or is a day trip enough? I am going to St. Martin in June and was considering spending 2 nights each on Saba and Statia. Any advice or suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Response to KC - I much prefer Saba to Statia, and if you were going to spend 4 days total visiting them, I'd make it 3 in Saba and one in Statia. Statia has some historic attractions that make it interesting, and you could climb up the volcano.
I think there is enough to "do" on Saba for a multi-day stay for me, but it there might not be enough to "do" for everyone. It depends on how you define "do".
I have been to Saba for times, each time for a week, and have not been bored. I do dive, but it's been only once or twice a trip, and I'd be content doing no diving. I have gone on a bunch of hikes and that flls up some of the time. However, mostly I "poke" around. Sabans are very easy to talk to, and people are not in a ruch. I spend a fair amt. of time talking to people (tourists and locals), relaxing some (although I do not spend hours on end laying around), going into shops, walking between the villages, reading some. This would probably not be everyone's cup of tea. There is very little nightlife, no beaches, not many organized things to do. It's perfect for me. If I had about 11 days in the area, I would spend it as follows: 4 days in St. Bart's, 0 days in St. Maarten, six days in Saba, and a dayttrip to Statia.

why zero days in st maarten? if someone is going to be in the area, they should experience as many islands as they can..each one is different and each one has things to offer.
st maarten may be too busy for you but st maarten has awesome beaches and great restaurants and of course the 2 cultures of the Dutch and french sides.
