Day Excursions from St. John???

Any suggestions of day excursions from St. John? My husband and I are into scuba (did the Rhone) and snorkeling, picture taking, and we're just adventurous in general. What are good islands to visit, and suggestions of what to visit/do. Love to deep sea fish and surf, too. Trying to stay in a "budget" for these excursions... Names of outfitters or whatever are most welcome!'Thanks!

Take a day excursion with snorkeling or diving to Anegada. You can do this by Plane or boat. Just ask around. There is only one plane supplier and I don't know how runs boat from St. John but your dive operation will give you good advice. Also if you bone fish, Anegada is the place but you need to spend some time there. A guide runs about $80 a day. This is the best bone fishing area and maybe the only one south of the Bahamas.

We just returned from St. John from our family vacation. While there we lucked into meeting the nicest captain (boat)We hired Stephen Thorton (340-775-7014) to take us out for a day boat trip. We went all over USVI and BVI. He was raised in St. Thomas so he realy knows the area. He pointed out things we would of never had the chance to see form the land. We could stop anywhere we wanted and snorkle or just look around and take pictures. Steve is a certified diver, so that would be excellent for you. I'm not sure of cost, but maybe you could share it with another couple. Believe me, it was was worth every penny. He made it so much fun for our teenager kids. Hope this helps.

www.vinow.com is a great site for all kinds of information about the USVI!

We did a day boat trip last year that took us the Baths in Virgin Gorda, a stop in Tortola and finally a stop at White Bay on Jost Van Dyke. I don't remember the name of the boat, but we booked at an outdoor kiosk in Cruz Bay near the dock. It was a great trip. We loved the Baths and had been to Jost Van Dyke before and love White Bay and the Soggy Dollar Bar.

We took a terrific 4 BVI day trip with Captain Cathy Packo, Sea Gypsy Charters 340-693-8020. Only 6 passingers on the boat which we felt we got to know and have a great time with. Lunch on the "Pirate Ship". My favorite stops were Indian Rocks - lots of marine life and clarity of water for snorkeling and the island with the sea caves (I can't remember the name) that we swam into.

This trip was one of the highlights of my vacation.

We took a 1 day charter on Stormy Petrel booked through Gallows Point (where we stayed). It was $100 per person, left around 9am, returned to St. John around 5pm and was a lot of fun. We went to Tortola, the Baths on Virgin Gorda (don't miss the Baths, it's like snorkeling in a giant aquarium), and a couple of other snorkel spots. Included in the price was all you can drink and lunch. It was a small power boat (about 30-35ft long) and held 8 tourists, plus the captain and mate. It was fun, not too expensive, and was more personal than the big 40+ person BVI daysails.
