Cycling in the Caribbean

We are looking for a good place to bring our bikes to the islands. Does anyone have any good recommendations for an experienced cycling couple (decent, challenging roads,etc.). We like good beaches and some nightlife, as well. Is this too much to ask? Thanks

Not a cyclist, isn't there a yearly challenge in St. Croix? When we were there, drove 4wd to a steep, steep, lookout called "THE BEAST", actually painted on the road. Saw cyclists soaring along the "rainforest" road & pumping up & down the coastal hills (mts?) above Carambola.

Best beach is Canes Bay (or Davis if you stay at Carambola). Neither are fabulous, both are beautiful. Beach at Buck I. was nice. Nightlife, sorry, can't help.

St Martin would be great. It is small enough, although with lovely "mountains" that you could probably daytrip all over. Wouldn't chance biking at night, however. Stay on the French side.

I think St Croix would be excellent for cycling - less traffic than St Thomas or St Martin and good roads.

Look into Condado Bike in Puerto Rico. They are from USA and organize excellent bike tours - beach, mountains, city. And they have facilities to repair bikes.

I have done independent cycling throughout Europe and have visited many of the islands of the Caribbean and will offer my perspective. In Europe cycling is part of the fabric of life and cyclists are repected. I the Caribbean cycling is not common and the cyclist is regarded as a nuisance to their high speed and reckless driving. The average island road is poorly maintained without shoulders and the cyclist is constantly at the mercy of the drivers who are often unattentive.I personally would only go off road on an all terrain bicycle or use the lesser used rural roads. Safety is paramont in that there is almost no emergency response for accidents.

You are partially correct...there is an annual triathalon, and The BEAST is part of the bicycle leg of the triathalon.
