Currency Americans Should Bring to Cuba

I've traveled to Cuba on three occasions. The first time was during the late 80s where we Americans paid for everything in dollars. Once the use of dollars were no longer accepted, during my last two visits, 2015 and 2017-- to avoid the 10% to 15% fee if I'd taken dollars to exchange-- I've had my Canadian dollars and Euros converted into CUC's. Both worked well, but for a better exchange, I'd suggest that one exchange Euros!

[I purchased my Euros from an international currency exchange that's located in Beverly Hills, CA and did well.]

We've been once, in August 2017, and brought Euros (we also get a better rate exchanging our dollars to Euros here in the US because my DH works for a bank).

We live in Costa Rica and wonder if we would get a better exchange rate with them rather than U.S. dollars?
