Curacao or Santo Domingo with my granddaughter this summer?

Thinking about going to Curacao this early summer. Any recommendations, or ideas. Would Santo Domingo be better? Views out there?

It depends on what you are looking for.

The DR has mainly huge mega AI complexes in which everything is included. Not much to see and do off property.

Curacao is a quaint Dutch city. The beaches are made up of coves/inlets and are mainly on the West Side. You will need a car or take a beach hopping tour to get to them. The sand is made up of crushed coral so you will need water shoes. The downtown area is very nice and clean. Good shopping, no harrassing. Take a East/West Island tour. The Sea Aquarium is fun. They offer a dive with no certification required.

I am not a fan of the DR. We enjoyed our trip to Curacao, but did not make our return list. I prefer Aruba. Has more opportunies for dining and things to see/do and their beaches are just gorgeous.

I wouldn't spend a vacation in Santo Domingo, particularly in the summer, when it's hot and rainy. I'd much prefer Curacao, which is drier and has nice beaches. And if you stay in a Willemstad hotel, you can still easily get to the beaches there.

If you do go to the DR, then don't spend all your time in Santo Domingo. It's a big, busy, polluted city with fairly high crime and a lot of dirt. Get out to one of the resort areas. Flying into Santo Domingo is fairly inconvenient to reach most resort areas. La Romana is about 2 hours east. Samana is about 2-1/2 hours northeast. For all other areas of the country, you'd fly into a different area.
