I was in Curacao just last October. My Husband and I visited the island while on a cruise of the southern carribean. It was on of our favorites (along with Tortola B.V.). Don't know much about the island but from what we saw, we would go back. It's tiny, with a strong Netherlands feel. It looks just like Amsterdam along the canal. Downtonw is constructed of original buildings (unlike Aruba which is a replica and looks like disneyland!). There are many shops in the old historic buildings. When we were there, it was a national holiday and all of the towns people were out celebrating in the streets - parade, food, kids... The one thing we didn't do we regretted was the snorkling. It is one of the best places in the world to do so. Everyone we spoke to said it wasn't to be missed. All in all, a beautiful island and we would go back for a longer period of time.
Enjoy, cao |
We went to Curacao last year and stayed at the
Princess Beach which was very nice. Best part of the trip was going snorkling to the "Tugboat" with the Princess Beach dive shop. Was the most beautiful snorkling we've done and the men who took us out on the boat were wonderful and entertaining. We get in the car and drive to snorkle sites - we enjoyed Playa Lagun and especially snorkling along the cliffs at several other beaches. Playa Khalki is enjoyable. We drove out to Barbara Beach and had lunch. Beautiful spot! Have fun - we never could get used to reading the Dutch street signs. |
Would be interested if anyone has any information on Sonesta in Curacao. Planning on vacation in 1999. What is best time of year to visit?

Just came back from Curacao. Stayed about 40-minutes out of the town at a beautiful, beautiful place call Coral Cliff Hotel. Literally on a cliff. Beautiful huge room. Weather just perfect. Curacao is a working island. Most are employed. Beaches were very very rocky. We and another couple were the "only footprints" in the sand! Have been to many caribbean islands and we like isolation. Leaving in June to the outer-island of Eluthera...
Good luck! |
Hello! We were in Curacao last April and truly enjoyed it! The airport is in the middle of the island. The more affluent side is the east end of the island. Lots of nice restaurants, groceries have dutch cheeses and pastries. We stayed on the west end of the island at Kadushi Cliffs Resort (RCI). Very beautiful two-story townhouses on a cliff overlooking the small fishing village of Westpunt. Each morning the small fishing boats would be offshore. 2 minute walk from our room to the private beach - best snorkeling on the island!! Pretty remote location, the resort had a nice restaurant and two other "local cuisine" restaurants close by. 30-45 minute drive back to the east side.
Curacao is famous for the "Handelskade" a row of colorfully painted buildings downtown along the canal. There is a national park that you can drive thru, great snorkeling, shopping and casinos. Have fun!! |
