Culebra or Viejes Islands, Puerto Rico

We went to Puerto Rico in April (Easter break) and fell in love with snorkeling. ( We stayed in Isla Verde and from there, took a day trip to Fajardo where we sailed to Icacos Island and Palomino Island. We heard wonderful things about Culebra or Viejes Islands and would love to stay there and snorkel there instead of staying in Isla Verde which is too commerical and has no place to snorkel. Has anyone stayed on either Culebra or Viejes and which would you recommend? Our family (hubby, wife & 15-year old son) would like a real laid back, non-touristy vacation the next time. We've done the tourist stuff, but next time we just want to rest, relax and snorkel! Thanks for any info you can pass along about accomodations, rates, etc.!!

Vieques and Culebra and two off shore islands belonging to Puerto Rico which are very laid-back, do-nothing, type of islands. If you enjoy snorkeling, I recommend Culebra more than Vieques. The best beaches on Vieques are controlled by the U.S. Navy and are "off-limits" to tourists. The beach Esperanza is nice, but not very good for snorkeling, while Culebra has a lot of little coves fantastic for snorekling. You can find out places to stay at this website: Just look up Culebra or Vieques. Happy traveling!

I have been to Culebra 2X and planning our 3rd. Its a GREAT do-nothing,non-tourist place to go. There is only 1 place to stay if you want to stay on a sandy beach which is Flamenco Beach. There are are some villas there also a small motel unit. They are not fancy but are very clean. They have air,TV kitchen units etc. But most important a beautiful beach!!!! There is wonderful snorkling just to the right of the beach also on the other side of the island there is some wonderful snorkling. We have heard Culebrita is worth a day excursion to snorkle there. Culebra is a great place to go ,very safe but its not for vacationers who want to be entertained!!!!

Culebra is the best! Flamenco Beach is one the finest beaches I have ever seen. You can do snorkling and diving, and the reefs are very nice.

Be carefull where you stay in Culebra. Accomodations are modest. My recommedndatio: Club Seabourne, Culebra Beach Villas and Culebra Island Villas. Do not stay at Harbour View Villas.
