Culebra
 

Culebra in Puerto Rico was rated as 1 of top 10 beaches in world! Never been there. Do you agree? Sounds beautiful! Which is great place to stay at Culebra? Any good bed/breakfasts?

Have not been there but it is tops on our hit list. For sure it is basic and not touristy. You will need to rent a car or do taxi to get to the cool beaches. If you are a well traveled and appreciate unspoiled places you will be just fine. All your basic needs will be taken care of. Hope you post a travel report upon your return.

Culebra is fun for two to three days, and the beaches (Flamingo, etc.) are nice but I wouldn't say great, especially considering what it takes to get to Culebra (flights to and from SJ or other Caribbean point). There are small, exquisite beaches on Vieques (like Blue and Green) which should be open again now that the Navy's departed. The bar at Mamasita's on Culebra is alot of fun.

There is a ferry that goes from PR to Culebra.

Don't take the ferry unless you have a lot of time and patience! Last weekend the ferry was delayed 3 hours on the way to Culebra and delayed 2 hours on the return. Given that you have to get there at least two hours in advance to get tickets that is a lot of waiting in the ferry terminal! There are flights from Fajardo area (which is where the ferry departs) that are about $40 it just takes a little bit of planning!

If you like laid back...I mean really laid back you will love Culebra. The beaches are beautiful and your days will be spent deciding which one to go to. We snorkled, swam and read books. There is NO night life but there are 4 or so good restaurants for dinner. there are a few bed and breakfasts in town but I don't know too much about it. some of the books give them ok reviews (fodor and frommer). We stayed at Tamarindo which was a basic cottage with a nice deck and great views and a pool. Nothing fancy at all. The place came with a jeep as part of the price. You will need a car to get around, especially if you want to explore beaches.
