CUISINART RESORT

We are staying there the first week of May.

1. How much is a taxi from SXM to the Ferry?
2. Are there any restaurants outside of the resort within walking distance. We like to try different places and won't be renting a car until the 3rd day of our visit.

Thank you

Nothing really walking distance for restaurants.

The taxi is around $20 a couple of years ago, don't know if that's changed.

When we stayed at the Cuisinart Resort last year, the resort actually had a van waiting to pick us up at the airport. But i can't remember how much it cost (sorry!) - 20 does sound reasonable tho.

I agree with blamona - there's really nothing within walking distance. Morevoer, there are hardly any street lights once you get out of the resort and it gets kind of deserted. If you don't want to take a taxi, I HIGHLY recommend Santorini - the hotel restaurant. I didn't see many reviews on it when i was researching restaurants. The food was however, amazing and the staff, very attentive and friendly.

Enjoy your stay at Anguilla! We definitely did!

PS: you DEF need to try out Straw Hat -it was by far our favourite restaurant in Anguilla!

Thank you. I guess we will rent a car sooner than we thought.

I would highly recommend getting a car before your 3rd day. Cuisinart is within
10 minutes of many dining spots. That is the fun about going to Anguilla --- Everyone has a favorite restaurant.

We were there (Anguilla & Cuisinart) the first week of May '05 - weather was great and the resort was not too crowded.

The taxi from the airport to the ferry is just around $20.

As everyone else said, nothing in walking distance, but lots close enough if you rent a car sooner. You'll see what we mean when you get there! Most rental places will deliver to the hotel so just plan on having it arrive on your 2nd day. The first night we just ate at the hotel and relaxed.

Definitely try Straw Hat, Oliver's and Johnno's (on Sunday afternoon for the best atmosphere).

You might want to consider a jeep. Some of the beach access roads are a touch rough. My wife and I rented a small Toyota Corolla, and by the time we were done with it after 9 days, it had taken a beating!

I should have included this in my earlier post. Sorry, folks--my bad!

Anyway, the taxi cost my wife and me 20 bucks. When you come out of the SXM airport, look for the taxi master and he'll set you up with a taxi. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the ferry. Give yourselves 15 minutes to check in at the ferry. The ferry ride takes about 25 minutes.

Now don't get me wrong--I love Anguilla. But right now I would not recommend that you plan to walk very far from Cuisinart at night on Rendezvous Bay. I s'pose you heard or read that there was a home invasion of a villa on the bay and an older couple were hurt.

Moreover, the gang violence in the Valley seems to have heated up.

So you'll want to be alert.

I regard these distressing developments to be totally unusual and not in any way reflective of one's overall experience of Anguilla. My wife and I love the beaches and restaurants on the island, but it's the people who really make us love the place.

Still, things happen . . . So again, just be alert, particularly at night.

For lunch, you should consider a long leisurely stroll up the beach to Cedar Gorove at Rendezvous Bay Hotel (RBH) -- a wonderful restaurant and an historically important piece of Anguilla history. In the other direction is The Dune which may or may not be serving lunch on any given day but it's worth a shot. If you're up to it, the music there starts about midnight. The Anguilla Great House (AGH) is between Cuisi & RBH -- not known for its food but the past 2 years, I've had nice lunches there (something simple like grilled tuna on a salad). This year, while swimming in front, we met a fisherman who takes his fresh catches right into AGH as soon as he returns (anchors his boat in front of the restaurant). The chef cooks them up for dinner -- might be worth a try. Those are all the walking options on that beach but once you get a car, there are about 75 other restaurants. You'll love it!
