CUBA....TRYP CAYO COCO RESORT??????

Hello,
Would love any info on this resort!!What is the
service like, food and of course the beaches!
looking to go in April THANK YOU!

Manuel Oct 4th, 1997 09:00 AM

Why would you want to go to this destination at such a sensitive time. Don't you realize elections at this time are almost unavoidable? You should really consider the Dominican Republic near the end of April. If the election is not a factor for Cuba then it shouldn't be for this destination. You must have friends who would travel with you to the wonderful isle. of the D.R.

Nils Johnsen Oct 4th, 1997 11:34 AM

I have not been to Cayo coco Resort, but at Cayo Largo which is a similar resort in Cuba. In Cayo Largo the beaches were excellent, the food and the service were acceptable. The prices were medium. 2 dollars for a beer e.g. You should ignore american warnings about not going to Cuba. That is hypocracy. USA is supporting much worse regimes than Fidel Castro's in Cuba! But the situation in Cuba is getting worse. Theft and begging is common, unfortunately. But there is no violence. Have a good holiday in Cuba!

Ronald Oct 5th, 1997 12:11 AM

Nils: one characteristic of Police States is that there are lots of police visible and invisible and so violence is repressed. In fact, everyone is repressed (except the tourists who bring cash of course and the repressers themselves). I suspect Norway had a lower crime rate when the Gestapo was in charge.

Michel Oct 12th, 1997 10:40 AM

Ronald... For someone who harps on about freedom, you sure seem to enjoy attacking anyone who doesn't share your point of view.

Ronald Oct 12th, 1997 07:03 PM

You call my remarks an attack. I would rather think of them as a pointed rebuttal and this is what freedom is all about. A clear sign of lack of an argument is when the one resorts to ad hominem remarks such as yours! Please criticize my remarks all you want not their source.

Michel Oct 12th, 1997 07:30 PM

Ronald... I've read your remarks (not just in this site). The "source" may be the problem.

Ronald Oct 12th, 1997 07:38 PM

Another ad hominem?

Michel Oct 21st, 1997 07:52 PM

Helen Oct 27th, 1997 10:59 PM

Oh, GOD! Here we go again! Ronald, can't you put a lid on it, and let other people end the arguement once in a while? After all, this IS a travel site, and if people wish to discuss Cuba as a destination without any sort of political overtones, LET THEM!

Ronald Oct 28th, 1997 08:15 AM

Helen: if you would read the discussions carefully you will see I never raised politics first; I merely responded to incorrect political statements or ad hominem arguments. You are unconsciously inconsistent I feel as you wish to allow others to freely express their views but would deny me the same privilege. Censorship may be the norm in Cuba but it is not in this forum to my knowledge.

TOM Oct 28th, 1997 01:55 PM

BEING OVER 60 YEARS OLD,BORN IN SCOTLAND,CANADIAN BY CHOICE,I VACATION IN CUBA BECAUSE I LOVE THE PEOPLE AND THE PLACE,ITS MY CHOICE,IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, THATS YOUR CHOICE,AND I WILL DEFEND YOUR RIGHT TO THE CHOICE YOU MAKE.THANK YOU.TOM PATRICK.

Ronald Oct 29th, 1997 03:30 PM

Tom: you are right, of course. Just be sure you have deliberately chosen with full understanding of your actions to patronize enterprises which support the worst tyranny this hemisphere has ever had in its history. Your age, roots and citizenship seem irrelevant to your argument though.

John Suarez Oct 30th, 1997 06:11 AM

To visit the oppressor's house is to sanction oppression... As long as a nation has not won its rights, any of its
children who feast in the house of those who subjugate its people is an enemy of the people." Jose Marti This is the full quote
by Marti on those who party in the house of a tyrant. Marti is to Cuba what Thomas Jefferson is in the United States. I for one
will forgive you who take advantage of those who are suffering to feed your shallow needs. If you want to help the Cuban
people help the thousands in prison for exercising their God-given rights. Don't throw trinckets at us in an attempt to justify
your presence as a guest of the tyrant in our land. ----------------------------------------------------------http://www.fiu.edu/~fcf/

Message boards are for people to share information and have fun doing it. This does not appear to be a fun thing, just a lot of childish bickering on who's right and who's wrong. Who cares. That's not what it is all about. Why don't you guys just voice your opinion in a nice way and be done with it. All this over one simple question!! Shame on all of you.

And now a message from the management: We here at Fodor's are very reluctant to intervene in the conversations on these forums--we run hosted forums so you can have the benefit of our contributors' expertise, and we hope that these forums can be a place for you to share your expertise, experiences, and adventures with other, without our editorial comment. Hi,
We have not been to Cayo Coco but we have been to Brisas del Caribe in Varadero. We thought that the hotel & esp the beach were great, the food is pretty funky, though.. A friend of mine went to Cayo Coco and loved it. It is on a nature reserve so that it is very pretty and the beach is fantastic. So if you like a really natural setting without the highrises & litter, this is your place.
regards

Hello,my wife and I were in Cayo Coco two years ago and liked it very much. The resort was only 450 rooms then,I believe it has doubled in size since. The beach is as white and soft as talcum powder. We had an upstairs room facing the sea and left our door open all night every night with no problems with bugs or intruders. We have been to Cuba three times and the food here was the best. The people have always been exceptionally friendly, no hassling with people trying to sell you things. You can go for a long walk down the beach at night without any worries. The resort itself is a replica of a small Spanish town, very well laid out.
Please feel free to e-mail us if you're looking for more information

Have a good holiday.

You might want to reconsider visiting Cuba. It's not safe. A 26 year old Dane was shot to death by Cuban troops
for wandering into a restricted area which was not clearly marked. Here's what his parents had to say: A FINAL NOTE
FROM THE FAMILY OF JOACHIM OGNER LOVSCHALL ~Terrorism occurs all over the world and is carried out by
terrorists. In Cuba, inhumane and inexcusable acts of lawlessness and injustice are carried out, not by terrorists, but by the
Cuban government. Jyllands-Posten - Article in original Danish
