Cuba - Trinidad/Cienfuegos or Pinar del Rio after Havana and Varadero

First time ravelling to Cuba from Switzerland in April.
After a 3-night stay in Havana and a 7-night stay in Varadero, we will have a couple of days left, before heading home (outbound flight from Varadero).

Options are either Trinidad/Cienfuegos or Pinar del Rio.

Which one would you recommend?

Mainly interested in typical architecture, culture, museums, so Trinidad and Cienfuegos seem to be spot on.

Other than that, If we don't go to the Tropicana, will we really miss something unique?
Our idea is to rather visit some clubs with good Cuban live music.

Your thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks a bunch!

Well, that should be 'travelling', of course.

Hope, to rave after the trip! ;o)

I would vote to see Trinidad. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and is the oldest (or one of the oldest) cities in the New World. If you love history and architecture, then this is the place to go.

Steve,

Thanks so much. I was hoping to get your opinion.

Incidentally, somebody else just raved about Trinidad and we've decided to go there. Also, it will be somewhat closer and more convenient to get back to Varadero to fly home.

BTW, we will most probably skip the Tropicana.

Hi Ursula:

I haven't been to the Tropicana show although I do hear that it is quite good. However it is outdoors and if you do by chance get an evening shower, it can foul things up for you.

That said, I have been to a similar show that I found spectacular. It is in the Parisienne Club at the Hotel Nacional. It is a good show of Cuban dance/music etc. The only annoyance is that the waiters keep serving throughout the show unlike other dinner theatres where all service stops during the actual show. So try to get a seat nearer the front (even if you have to slip the maitre'd a few bucks for the seating.

Enjoy Cuba and send some sunshine back to those of us still in northern climes.

Again, thanks, Steve.
We might try the Parisienne Club instead of the Tropicana.
We'll bring plenty of bucks with us, anyway.
So, no problem there.

BTW, we are having wonderful spring weather here in Switzerland. Warm and sunny, but then, I am at work. (
